    Iowa State Football Question

Ok The season is over, we had a week to get over our rants on fire him, them, and all. With our blood pressure down.

What do you think the ISU program needs to do?

I believe in Chizik and believe he has the right people there and coming in next year. The staff is there in some areas I still question them. I believe if they (Staff) goes to a big 12 football minds, that we would be better then ever next year. ISU need to open up the offense and tighten down the defense. ISU needs to score like a high octane offense that we have or can have

    Re: Iowa State Football Question

We need pass rushers and safeties. Period.

The offense is going to be fine. ISU proved the theory that defense wins championships (or just a single conference game, as a start). You should pretty much not ever lose if you have 626 yards of total offense in a game.

Until we can get big bodies that can control the line of scrimmage, our football team will continue to under perform our desires. They tried very hard the past couple of years. Unfortunately, they aren't there yet.

We need some big uglies on the D-line. I think we were very soft in the middle of our passcoverage, as well.

    Re: Iowa State Football Question

We need to improve in nearly every aspect on defense. On offense, we should improve nicely with the returning players. Our offense should be pretty good as long as we don't stop ourselves. Playing disciplined football is a must for next year.

Period? It's a start, but you sure left out "a fast middle linebacker".

A fast and smart middle linebacker certainly would help, but was third on the list of issues to fix with the defense.

Can't disgaree with that, just noting that a "period" usually denotes finite. Besides which, both middle linebackers will be seniors next fall, so the position is an absolute necessity for after that in any case.

    Re: Iowa State Football Question

Pelini kep Watson from Callahan's staff as OC to provide continuity for the offense. It's worked. Chizik should have done the same on the other side of the ball and kept Skladany. Bolt's defense has been horrible.

    Re: Iowa State Football Question

I have to agree with everyone the glaring whole on this team was defense.

I liked the improved special teams and the offense. I just would of expected our defense to be better than it is. But I will hold judgment till next year and hope for vast improvements.

    Re: Iowa State Football Question

From a Cat fan it looks like ISU needs to add size and speed to the front 7 on defense. Big 12 QB's pick apart any secondary around when given all day to throw. The Cyclone offense will do fine just as soon as they quit shooting themselves in the foot with penalties and turnovers. I saw improvement in the offensive line this year and would expect more next year. Gene is probably trying to add a few more big uglies with an attitude for the offensive line yet. From his days at Auburn, he knows well the importance of controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

Right On, I hate to compare us to Iowa, but they have a better performing O-line/D-line than we do. I would not trade any of our skill players for theirs. even Greene. Coach Sheppard will get our linemen in the weightroom and beef those guys up into a competitive group

    Re: Iowa State Football Question

Everybody says defense which is true but I think the Red Zone offense has to get 10 times better for next year. Two questionable option plays (probably the only two option plays all year) were called in the KSU and CU game. They were both a disaster. Plus, our true freshman kicker had 25 field goal attempts. You can't have 500+ yards of offense and only put 24-28 points on the board

Cool Re: Iowa State Football Question

This is simple. ISU needs a much better O-line and D-line and the wins will follow. It all starts in the trenches.............
