    Blocked Punts

Perhaps a dumb question, but I've been thinking about it tonight after seeing two partially blocked punts in the TU-aTm game. Why is it not "fair game" as they say, for the kicking team to pick up the ball and run with it if it's touched (partially blocked) by the receiving team? Is it because the touch is behind the LOS? Is there some special rule for this situation?

In both kicks, the kicking team's cover unit has been downfield and either "downed it" or let it roll out of bounds.

    Re: Blocked Punts

If the ball crosses the LOS, then it's still treated as a regular punt. It won't even be credited as a blocked punt.

If the ball doesn't cross the LOS, then either team can advance it. Same thing goes for a blocked placekick.
