Try something legal. It's usually easier.

    Re: powerpoint/movie maker help

Do you have a video camera? You can take that and hook it up to your tv, and then record directly from the tv, or in your case dvd, and the video camera records whatever is playing on the tv screen. Then, just upload whatever clips you recorded onto your comp and there ya go. (only works if your camera has a harddrive for storage or some type of usb connection.) But, if you don't have a camera, then disregard this whole post. ;)

Try to copy the office dvd half through an episode. On some movies they load the copy protection in the front.

Re: legal/not legal - you didn't initially say you owned copies of the dvd. That does make a difference. Personal use is likely not as important in this case as the classroom assignment aspect. As long as you're doing this for an assignment, you're probably OK without obtaining specific permission - IF you limit the total excerpts to not more than 10%, maximim 3 minutes. That's not 3 minutes per episode, that's 3 minutes total.

Once the presentation leaves the classroom, all bets are off. Different standards apply.

No, I'm not a copyright lawyer and I didn't sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night. But I do work with students on a farily regular basis on this topic and have had reason to actually read, study and help interpret the CONFU guidelines. (If you have insomnia, that reading might just cure it!)

    Good luck with the presentation.

thanks for the reply with your knowledge .... i ended up only using two small clips of about 30 seconds each .... main reason for use is to keep audience attention during transition and to introduce the next topic ... all in all i should be good with your advice ... thanks ...

Actually, you can download youtube vids. Not sure how good the quality would be on a full size tv or projector screen, but its worth a try if nothing else. Just copy and paste the URL of the vid at this website... DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS
