Wild Hog? Wild Hawk? Why not...

I like the formation, the use of A Rob, and I think we'll see the formation again tomorrow (and a lot more next season). And I think we'll pick up some nice yardage. udos to those who suggested it earlier in the season, not so much to those who said McFarland was "too conservative" to use it.

However, I think we really need a better name for it. One is far too Arkansas-centric, the other, though out of the Miami Dolphins ...*shudder* well, we just can't use it. We really need our own name, a mark uniquely our own identity.

So I started thinking. And there's only one name that we can use. Whatever the coaches call it, it's just a natural. The PA guy can even take off on it when we have a big gainer, yeah, the song is straight out of the Seventies. But still, how about Iowa State's...

    The WildCyde Formation.
C'mon. Take a walk on it.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this "Wildcat, etc" formation is more conservative than anything? I mean, as soon as you lineup the defense knows whats coming...

I agree about needing to spice up the play calling when we line up in that formation. When we line up with A-Rob in the shotgun, everyone and their brothers know that it is just a direct snap to him for a run straight ahead, or near the tackles. Stack the box and contain the ends and it's good for a negative loss to 3 yard gain at most.

Big Ham certainly wasn't mine. That's from team reports, his actual nickname.

As for a name for a formation...I'd like to see a little buzz and recognition about this team.

Predictable, perhaps, but how well are defenses adjusting to it?

Re: Wild Hog? Wild Hawk? Why not...

if they did it I would line up LJ or darks as the primary back both of them can throw well being old high school QB's. The wildcat formation or what ever you wnat to call it is just an updated version of the old single wing offense it was used by teams that didn't have a reliable QB to throw.

I agree. It works in High School and below. I think it only really works in the NFL and college the first time a team does it. Once it's on film, it's done.
