Thoughts on where we go from here.

    1. Beat Hawaii.
    2. The impact of the Colvin signing can not be overstated, from both a recruiting stand point, and from a winning stand point.
    3. Chris Colvin scouting report, kind of a composite of what I've seen and heard:
Chris is has one of the quickest first steps in the country, and can get by a defender in the blink of an eye, kind of like Diante. Colvin is not extremely strong, but is a lot stronger than Diante was when he came in. He has a very inconsistent outside shot, but the mechanics are there, even though he needs to start his shot from a little higher up. Colvin is one of those people with uncanny court vision, and players always need to expect a pass from him. He is an above-average defender, due to the fact that he is very quick, and an extreme effort defender. However, stronger guards can sometime post him up. Colvin is a pass first point-guard, but often can penetrate all the way to the hole. Look for Chris and Dominique to split time at the 1 next year, with Domonique getting slightly more playing time. Colvin can also play the two guard if needed, but prefers playing the point.
    4. Even if the actual commitment of Colvin to ISU doesn't initially have an impact on HB, it eventually will because we will start winning more, and that will factor in HB's decision.
    5. Kyle Kelm is close, but Iowa is still in it. As of right now, Marquette is pretty much out of it. (Take that, Buzz Williams, we got Colvin, who you offered too.)
    6. I think Daniyal Robinson deserves a round of applause for landing Colvin. Without him, we wouldn't have even been involved with Chris, and his connections and ties to the family helped land Chris.
Coach D-Rob has done an absolutely great job since coming to ISU.
    7. Wes is better than he looked against LMU.......
    8. Look for the game against Houston to come down to the final minutes, Houston is a pretty good team this year.
    9. Big Ham and Buck are coming along nicely, and will get progressively more minutes as the year goes along.
    10. CB will be first team All-Big 12. Mark my words. He will also get All-American consideration.
On a closing note, thanks to everyone who stayed positive when things weren't looking as good as we are now. Stay positive and patient, because this team will have it's ups and downs.

Re: Thoughts on where we go from here.

Some nice surprises to go along with all that are:

    a) As a young team and playing a lot of first year guys, we are knocking down the outside shots (Wes, Lucca, JVB epsecially). I thought it would take them much longer to find their stroke, but they look confident.
    b) Hamilton is a lot more athletic than I imagined. I think he could be a very good player, and not just a role player.
    c) Lucca's passing ability might be on par with his shooting ability.

Re: Thoughts on where we go from here.

i agree that CB will have a monster season.

....we need to seal the deal with kelm.

if we can get him, show the capability to win some games, along with the fact we just got chris colvin that would be huge in our attempts to get harrison.

Barnes, Kelm, Dykstra, Kadima would be a loaded 2010 class

Re: Thoughts on where we go from here.

I agree that CB will be the man this year, but he is going to be prone to being muscled in the Big 12. This may force him outside or to fall away, and teams can contain him if this happens. However, we have the outside help for him this year, it appears.

I also think there is NO WAY that he turns pro after this year, as some have speculated. He's at least a year away, and that's good for ISU MBB.

    - I thought Houston graduated a ton of guys last year? They shouldn't be that good...

    - Where Diante seems to be smooth, Colvin is explosive. Colvin seems to me much more of a 2 than Diante.

    - I like Brackins, but there are better big guys in the league. Second team maybe, no All-America.

Next year Diante will be almost exclusively a 2. He can score better than he has been, especially on the teardrop, and is unstoppable 1-1.

    - I like Brackins, but there are better big guys in the league. Second team maybe, no All-America. Like who, besides Blake Griffin? CB is better than Cole Aldridge.

James from Texas is pretty solid, but CB is probably just as good as he is if not better.

Re: Thoughts on where we go from here.

The knock on Brackins all season will be the rebounding. Aldrich is a very good player as is the other Griffen, Rogers from Baylor, several Texas guys (they might throw James in at a F spot if there are three really good guards) Davis from A&M, and of course Lyons and Carroll from Mizzou.

I would be surprised if Brackins got 1st team All Big 12, let alone All American. Frankly that's just a shade below the Bo Williams for Heisman talk on the wacky scale.

I only have one quibble with anything you wrote...

Yes, but unless Harrison waits until the Spring signing period his senior year (which seems unliklely), Colvin's on-court contribution will have no impact on his decision. So we have to start winning this season.

The way we moved on Colvin, I'd almost wonder, if Kelm doesn't commit soon, whether he might be overrecruited by someone else we have no clue about right now.

I think that depends on how he plays the next thirty-odd games or so, not how we expect him to play. I don't think anyone anticipated an A-A/POY contender season out of Marcus Fizer before he exploded.

    I'd disagree with that. Fizer was a McDonald's All-American.

I thought the same thing. To that point, it could be said that Fizer underachieved, since he was an elite talent.

Fizer was a McD AA but it's not really like Brackins was that far off from making that team either...

He didn't have lots of help his first couple of years.
