Should this guy be punished or thanked?

    'Mailman Steve' gets probation'
    By Sarah Ovaska, Staff Writer

RALEIGH - Mailman Steven Padgett received a probationary sentence today from a sympathetic judge for failing to deliver years worth of junk mail on his Apex route...

It would save me some time too, but who knows for sure that junk mail was all he burned.

Yeah, and sometimes I make them pay for it again when I drop it right back into the mailbox with "RETURN TO SENDER FIRST CLASS POSTAGE DUE" written clearly on it.

It's a subersive plot to undermine the Post Office!

That is exactly what I thought of when I heard about this.

It would have been funnier if he was doing it to make a stand, but it looks like he was just cutting corners. Still funny.

Honestly, that is your choice. The post office did their job of getting the mail to you. What you do with it is your choice. Honestly, 99.9% of all of ours goes into the recycle bin before it gets back in the front door. That is the mail that's paying his salary. Bulk mail is where the post office makes it's money. I'm on both sides of this. I don't like getting random junk mail, but at the same time, I'm a catalog designer. So, without junkmail, I might not have a career. Plus, I think only first class mail gets returned. I think that's part of the discount of lower class mail, no matter what you right on it to try to return it.

Postal Employee: "May I help you?"
Kramer: "Yeah, I'd like to cancel my mail."
Postal Employee: "Certainly. How long would you like us to hold it?"
Kramer: "Oh, no, no. I don't think you get me. I want out, permanently."
Newman: "I'll handle this, Violet. Why don't you take your three hour break?
Oh, calm down, everyone. No one's cancelling any mail."
    Kramer: "Oh, yes, I am."
    Newman: "What about your bills?"
Kramer: "The bank can pay 'em."
Newman: "The bank. What about your cards and letters?"
Kramer: "E-mail, telephones, fax machines. Fedex, telex, telegrams,
    holograms."
Newman: "All right, it's true! Of course nobody needs mail. What do you
think, you're so clever for figuring that out? But you don't know the half of
what goes on here. So just walk away, Kramer. I beg of you."
Supervisor: "Is everything all right here, Postal Employee Newman?"
Newman: "Yes, sir, I believe everything is all squared away. Isn't it, Mr.
    Kramer?"
Kramer: "Oh, yeah. As long as I stop getting mail!"

So, you're part of the problem.

You'd be surpised how many people are. Anyone work for a financial institution? An insurance comany? A retailer? Especially since the telemarketing ban, most companies have gone to the mail to do their direct marketing.
