comments on players from the 1st few games

Brackins= ehh, so-so so far. Finally has moved closer to basket and pretty much stays there ..thank god. Still needs to play meaner and go at rebounds and will himself baskets. Unlimited talent....... Diante Garrett= Seems alot taller this yr, maybe not. Any way a lot calmer and confident maybe too confident at times. Seemed liked he was showingoff some for his buddies from Milwaukee. Nice he can make some threes but needs to know his limits at it. Still a dang good player...Petey= seems ALOT faster and quicker this yr, not as uptight and under control more while at same time is fanatic at going for rebounds, a good thing. Looks more like a veteran.. ..Lucca = excellent 3pt shot, awesome in rythum passer like a qb hitting a reciever in stride. Looks a little slow and slodgy with the knee situation.Still think he will be a Hoiberg type on court.... Eik= pretty much what i thought he would be......the rest to be continued at a later time.

Garrett made 3 of 5. After he missed one badly, the next one he made in the rhythm of the offense. After his next miss, he didn't shoot another the whole game. He drove into the lane a lot in the second half. I think he knows his own limits.

He's learning his limits because I've noticed coach give him an earful a couple of times....

I love that about McD. As soon as a player does something that requires coaching, he grabs them and explains to them what needs to happen.

I do too... The only thing I hope after the whole WJ thing is that our players realize "coach isn't hating on them", but instead "coach is trying to make them better"....

Re: comments on players from the 1st few games

The only negative I see is that coach sometimes will pull a player after a bad miss on the defensive end no matter what. On Friday I noticed that he pulled Wes after a defensive lapse. This happened when Wes had just made like 2 threes in a row. I just hope that he does not let his emotions run his substitutions during Big 12 play.

Do you really think Coach Mac is coaching with his emotions? I seriously doubt it. The best time to correct an error is sooner than later. Mental toughness is important in all sport and especially basketball. I want a tough, no nonsense coach.

It's a lot easier to correct mistakes on the spot, rather than later, when they have forgotten all about it. Fix things when they are fresh in everyone's mind.

I think it's easier to fix in the film room, when you can show a guy what he did wrong.

I'm sure they're correcting it in the film room as well, but I like that he's correcting it right away on the court. It makes an immediate impression that will not only help them in future games but will also help them in the current game.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I still don't know why he was jumping and screaming at Wes for pushing the ball and Thompson missing a sweet pass on the fast break...

I thought I remembered the pass sailing a little high. It was a good idea and great vision by Eik, but I didn't think Thompson really had an opportunity to catch it. Maybe I "misremembered."

What it did show me was Eik has game. He isn't strictly a spot-up shooter. Both him and Lucca have shown confidence with the ball that I haven't seen in a few years as a Cyclone fan.

Pass was there, Thompson just didn't have his hands up. Wes had just hit a big shot, we got the steal and he pushed it up. I didn't think it was a good spot to make an example out of kid... That being said, I am really impressed by Wes...

Re: comments on players from the 1st few games

I think McD is doing well on the feedback to the players during the game situation. He gets the player's attention, gives them immediate feedback and almost always pats them on the back and/or smiles. The player usually doesn't stay on the bench too long. The only time I have seen him hold a player out is that a match-up is not good...

My read is that the players like the coaching...

I bet we can meet this one in the middle.

On the spot: Coach has a chance to keep a bad habit from forming. Habits are easy to make than unmake, so there's an advantage there to on-the-spot correction.

Film: Player has a chance to work from sight, not from memory of something happening at game speed.

I think on-the-spot is necessary to keep the habit from forming, but the tape would cement the teaching moment for a longer time.

    How's this one sound?
