    Post Weekend Games

Funny. After the first two games of the weekend, narrow wins, we had all sorts of meltdown threads. We thrash UW-M, at least theoretically the biggest threat of the three, and nothing. No post game thread.

Could it be that people don't want to give credit where credit is due? If you still want to nitpick, look at Craig Brackins' rebound totals. Maybe that'll make you feel better.

In the meantime, the people who have been moaning that this is a "bad" team don't seem to have much to say. A really nice effort by our boys, I'd say, and nice to see them starting to settle in.

Oh yeah. They didn't get to the free throw line enough, either.

    Re: Post Weekend Games

Many people say a win is a win...and I think our first game was more than a win. I think it was a huge team builder and really showed the resiliency of not only our coaching staff but also our players to never give up. You see so much about how we wish our football would've done better or our basketball should've won...but I think with our FB and MBB teams, you will never see a team give up no matter the circumstances and I love that!

    Re: Post Weekend Games

the football team started off 2-0 and we know what happened after that.

I hope that the basketball team can do something different - but i don't see enough talent out there to compete in the big 12.

Actually, the ISU/UWM official thread had 279 posts as I checked just a few minutes ago. That's a bit of conversation and a lot of credit was passed around.

The 2nd game (Saturday) wasnt very close. I would say only one close game.

    Re: Post Weekend Games

I guess I can't do the whole roller coaster of emotions like most people do....

I think there were alot negatives to pull out of the first two wins. Then again, it was their first two real games. (from what I heard, and read... Note...Did not listen or watch)

I only listened to the 3rd game all the way through... I really have no opinions yet. We did beat a decent team, but a team that wouldn't finish better then 11th or 12th in the Big 12.

You can't really take too much out of it until they get to real competition..

Yeah, and not nearly as many as a football game thread.

And none of those threads specifically addresses the weekend's games. Hey, I can read thread titles too.

Topping off the weekend 15-27 from three is a vast improvement over last season. Hey, did anyone check to make sure that they moved the line back a foot?

They moved it. The new line is the gold one

I don't think it bothered our guys a bit.

360 posts for the football game that lasted 3 hours and was on TV for people to watch. 279 for a basketball game that lasted 2 hours and was not on TV for people to watch...I think Basketball wins!

Gold? It looks like it was Money.

(oh, wait, that's football, isn't it?)

Amazing we can shoot that well from a foot further back. I suppose that I could make some comment about Mac's "system" seeming to work, but that would probably be premature, if not out and out rude, wouldn't it?

    Re: Post Weekend Games

I am glad we started out 3-0 and we looked decent in 2 of the 3 games, but really none of the teams we played would stand a chance against the majority of the Big 12. And as for Brackins rebounds and our free throws, I think those are legitimate concerns that seams like you are not worried about. Brackins should not be getting out rebounded by our guards in 2 of the 3 games. We also have looked horrible from the line when we did get there. I am glad we won but I do not want the same thing to happen like it did in football where we beat some bad teams and all the sudden we are talking about making the postseason. We have looked good in some areas and we have looked poor in some areas, hopefully we iron out some of the issues and have a better team than I think most of us originally thought, but as for now I am not upping my expectations due to three games we were supposed to win.

They shot good 2 out of the 3 games in all honesty... We launched 20 3s the first game only hitting 6 for 30%.

I hope the system will work, but if we have a bad shooting night... I have a feeling we could get killed against better competition.

I do like what I heard last night though...

Well, see, luckily for me, I don't have to up my expectations. I was already anticipating a post season bid.

I also wasn't surprised by Craig being outrebounded at this point, because as someone pointed out Sunday, with a lot of threes, it will be the guards who are doing a lot of rebounding on long caroms. However, those are all things that can be worked on as the season proceeds, and hopefully we will see taken up a notch as the competition improves.

At the moment, I'm just happy to see that we seem to have a working starting five, a little depth, and no glaring weaknesses, like last year's team. Vanderbeken is better than advertised, Diante and Craig are improved, and right now those are all very good starting points.

I'm not arguing the veracity. But to state that the boards were basically silent and without credit is blatanty false. I've supported but never been a fan of Mcd, but I clearly gave him credit for what the team did this weekend. But you'll have to read the threads to know this.
