    BCS Scenario...

ESPN - Brad Edwards: No conference title, no problem

I've been saying this all weekend, then just found this link...

It really isn't that far fetched...

    1) Winner of the South loses to Missouri (in a cold Kansas City). Upsets happen all the time in title games. South winner survives the gauntlet of the regular season, then forgets to show up Dec. 6th.

    2) Florida trips up on the road at Florida State, then wins SEC title game vs. Alabama.

    3) Oregon State wins out, beating Arizona and Oregon. They win the Pac-10 over USC because of the head-to-head win.

Will all this happen? Probably not, but it isn't that far fetched. If the Big 12, SEC, etc are only eligible to send the conference champion to the BCS Title Game, why can the Pac 10 send their runner up (USC)?

    Read the article...it's thought provoking.

    Re: BCS Scenario...

The guys on the Iowa pregame show were talking about the Big 10 sending 2 teams to the BCS. OSU and PSU. Quite laughable.

Laughable but it will probably happen unless one of them loses in the next few weeks.

    Go Michigan and Michigan State!

OSU has 2 losses. If Penn St. wins out, I don't see how they could send them, but who knows.

    Re: BCS Scenario...

I think it is very unlikely that the big 10 doesn't send two teams. OSU will get in with a win over Mich. Same for Penn St.

Great. A conference that only won 1 game out of conference against a ranked team. Wisconsin beat Fresno St (now 6-4) by 3.

What is the Big 10's next best win?

Oregon St by Penn St at Penn St when Oregon St was really struggling...

    Re: BCS Scenario...

If Oregon State wins out, they will go to the Rose and USC will go to one of the other BCS bowl games. Add in one of the BCS busters and two big XII teams and it could squeeze out Ohio State.

Probably Iowa beating us, which doesn't say much.

    Re: BCS Scenario...

Here's the way I see it. So, there's basically 4 at-large spots after the title game teams are chosen. Assuming the Big 12 and SEC play for the title the next two schools in line from those conferences will probably take 2 spots (assuming they win out...blah, blah). Non-BCS school (probably Utah) will take one. If Oregon State holds on to the Pac 10 USC will most likely get the last one and that's it.

But, if USC wins it who else would you take? The next eligible team from a BCS conference not including the Big 10 would be Pitt at #20. Yeah, right. Would they ever choose Boise State over PSU or OSU? No way.

So, if Oregon State wins out I'd be surprised to see another Big 10 team in there but if they don't then it's a lock.

psu would already be in ... and i'm sure they'd take an sec team (most likely) or another crappy big11 team ...

    Re: BCS Scenario...

    Read the article.

He's basically saying that IF you only allowed conference champions to play in the BCS championship game, you might have this scenario.

There is no such rule, and so there will be no such scenario.

If all the games play out as he listed, we would likely see Texas-USC in the BCS championship, and I would say deservedly so. Oklahoma losing to Missouri and Alabama losing to Florida after Florida losing to FSU should result in that, IMO.

I've seen nothing out of FSU that suggest they'll be within 10 of Florida.
