    Austen's Got Game

I see that he set a Cyclone record last night for completions, with 36.

For the season thus far, 216-356 (60.7%) for 2352 yards, 12 TD's, 8 ints. A 122.8 efficiency rating. Not a bad first season starting for a sophomore.

Not bad at all, TDs are lower than id like to see, and Numbers are nothing to him when we arent winning. He wants to win first and foremost, and thats been seen over the last few weeks

    Re: Austen's Got Game

There were some lunatics behind us, calling for Bates a couple times. Fortunately they left well before halftime.

QB is by far not the problem for this team. AA is certainly a star.

I get the feeling though, listening to the postgame, Ben Bruns isn't a huge fan. Some of his comments about AA's game last night were a bit backhanded I felt. And then the "QB position will be up for grabs again next year" or something close to that.

Yes, Tiller is supposed to be good - but as with Bates, he's played zero games at this level as a QB.

    This is AA's team.

i agree, i get really annoyed when i hear "put in tiller or whoever" or when the quitter was still here. and "Austen sucks" those people really dont know anything about football, with a good Oline thats CONSISTANT, he would be tearing apart defenses, but we dont so he has a milisecond to through and is hurried often...people dont understand..but im excited for the future.

    Re: Austen's Got Game

Not a bad season for a sophomore but the Big 12 doesn't play much defense and he didn't face Texas, Tech , OU, etc. He's certainly not our problem and we can win games with Arnaud at QB. I think he will be a lot better next year.

    Re: Austen's Got Game

Austen has some things he needs to work on, but hes one or two things away from being a great NFL prospect. I think he will tighten things up next year. But i agree. With this staff.... Tiller will be in the mix next season no matter who's team this is.

Just think what AA would be able to do if the defense were to force a few punts and give him a few more possessions each game.

I agree with your comments about Arnaud, but it scares me to think that we'll have another qb controversy going into next year. Unless Tiller is OBVIOUSLY better than Arnaud (which I doubt) then Arnaud should start. Imo, Arnaud has everything in place to be the best all around qb to play at this school. He has a rocket, makes mostly smart decisions, and is a bruising runner. He needs to shore up his accuracy (just a little), and he will be rock solid. Also, his intangibles are huge. He just seems to will himself for yards/tds sometimes. No knock on Bret Meyer, but he never looked as hungry out there as Arnaud does.

    Re: Austen's Got Game

No Doubt I have developed a fondness for Austens play, mostly his desire. He won the competition this year and will agree it made him better. There is nothing saying he cant do it again and get even better. QB controversy is not a problem for Austen Arnaud, and infact, i think we were better WITH the controversy. I think it will only bring good things, and if you know AA, you know he welcomes the competition.

I don't think AA or anyone benefits from a QB controversy. But I do think he (and all players) benefit from competition.

Offense is not our problem. Just imagine how potent it would be if the defense could give it the ball back every couple times.

Bruns is dead wrong then. AA is a star. No reason he can't challenge for all league honors.

    Re: Austen's Got Game

I may have interpreted him wrong. Or maybe he was just being the other side of the argument when Walters was talking about the game AA had.

But it didn't seem Bruns was as excited for AA's future as the others.

    Re: Austen's Got Game

Ofcourse it benefits AA to have the competition which is often referred to by media as a "controversy" We've heard it from coaches mouths that they think Tiller can push for playing time. You certainly know that they are going to let him have a shot. Austen is a competitor and a great kid, he welcomes the competition and it makes him better because he HAS to shine when the competition is knocking. He does well in that situation.

    Re: Austen's Got Game

From hearing Bruns talk about Tiller I think he is that high on Tiller, not necessarily down on Arnaud... I think the only thing Austen really needs to work on is the touch passes, giving the receivers a chance to catch it on the run and keep running...
