    What Happened To #40

Did we abandon this tradition? I thought it was one of the better traditions in basketball, honoring Chris Street with an Iowa born player wearing #40 but we have no #40 on the roster....

Thompson would be a logical choice being a big man. He might not have been born in Iowa however. Dunno. Good question. Oversight?

    Re: What Happened To #40

This came up last season, because someone had the same (very good) question.

That was one of the neater and classier traditions in college basketball. I'm guessing (key word) that it's simply faded, because time has passed since Chris's passing away. There might be a better reason. I don't remember anymore.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

I guess its not really an "iowa born" player as much as someone from Iowa... I thought we had a #40 last year...

    Re: What Happened To #40

I wore #40 at my high school in Florida. I came back for Christmas (our family is from here) and heard the story just after he was killed and immediately switched numbers.

So why doesn't Haluska, Thompson or Peterson wear #40?

    Re: What Happened To #40

I believe having a player from Iowa wear #40 changed to someone from Iowa wearing #3 after Brian Pearson died of cancer. (Sean Haluska wears #3)

If that is correct, Ithink it is better to honor one of our own players who died a tragic death than other state schools players. They can do their players, we can do ours.

It'd be nice if we could do both, though it might not be likely that we always would have two Iowa kids on the roster.
