LOL I Love it! Eikmeier bails out ISU

Guess that small town competition helped him to get ready for D-1 bb.

I wouldn't say he bailed us out, but he did play well and hit some good shots. I expect and hope that we'll see a lot more of him in the future.

the 2 most smirked at recruits, JVB and Eik,

were the ones that keep ISU in the game. Interesting to look through game thread and see posts groveling for Eik.

I think he bailed us out by hitting some big threes down the stretch. Other players contributed but Brackins, Diante, Jamie, and Eik definitely sealed the deal.

Re: LOL I Love it! Eikmeier bails out ISU

I just looked at the stats online and I am quite impressed with Eikmeier's stat line. 3-5 from three point range, 5 defensive boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 0 turnovers is a pretty solid effort...one I would take every night from this guy as a freshman and be very happy with.

A couple of words of caution though. One, we were playing UC Davis not UCLA. It is always great to get the win but my sense is that UC Davis is not a team that we should struggle to beat. Two, just as in other sports (like FB) the younger the guy, the more likely his play will be inconsistent.

Here's to being served crow all season long!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Good response. A reasonable serving of crow with hope for more, and the caution about young players. That works

I also notice that Eikmeier picked my favorite number (12) for his uniform number...do you think he did that on purpose to yank my chain????

What other reason could he have?

how about he's a good player who helped us win and that's why our coaches recruited him?

Gotta say that Eikmeier understood what it took to win, as he kept getting himself in position for key plays on both sides of the court.

I think everyone now has seen first hand how quick and smooth Eik's release is. For his size, he seems to move well with and without the ball. But 170 lbs...ouch. He is going to take some abuse from big XII guards.

Those that were there: Why was it so close? Are we just inexperienced? Rusty? Plain no good? Was UC pretty good?

For awhile it was the same problems as last year- we could get penetration but could not finish inside. I don't know how many 5-10 footers clanked off the rim. Then later in the game it seemed like we couldn't even get inside anymore and just started chucking up shots, which didn't go in either. I'm really hopeful that if our shooting improves we will be a little better, but time will tell.

I do think UC is a pretty good team, and there is something to the fact that they returned almost their whole team from last year. Plus I heard on the radio that they started their season early with an international trip? Not sure what the deal is with that. Still, we should've beaten them by more than 3 points... At the end of the night as I was walking out, I found myself thinking "at least we didn't lose, and tomorrow is a new day." Well that day is today... GO CYCLONES!!!

MY biggest beef last year was our point guards dribbling into traps and corners with no plan.

There was still some of this going on, but what annoyed me the most were the passes into the traps in the corner. It happened multiple times.

UC-Davis is not good but their offense was more in sync than ours for sure.

However if we play anywhere near that badly in the Big 12 we will go 0-16.
