Big 12 South playing in cold weather...

There's a thread over at Hawkeyereport about this. Apparently since 1996 you guys have had ONE home game against a South team in November? Is that right? Why don't any of the North teams raise hell about this? Texas has to play at Kansas and the weathermen in Austin are raising a stink about it being 30 degrees! OMG!!!

    $$$$$$$$$$$

Big XII doesn't want to hurt the chances of Texas, Oklahoma, etc. losing in Ames and killing their chances at the BCS.

Re: Big 12 South playing in cold weather...

It's not primarily about the South not wanting/having to play in the cold.

It's more about playing within your own division at the end of the year, when the Division titles are being decided.

Re: Big 12 South playing in cold weather...

Welcome to the Big XII, where everything is slanted to keep the teams with money happy. ISU is also the only school is the conference that has to play OU and UT in back to back weekends on the road. I wonder why?

Re: Big 12 South playing in cold weather...

The times that teams from the south that travel north in November are pretty few and far between - and that's across the board, not just ISU.

In fact, it's a little rare to see the teams head north even late in Oct.

Of course there are exceptions - A&M was here the last week of Oct this season.

Agree, but even if you were to go undefeated against north opponents you can still lose the north if another north team has more conference wins. So a conference game will decide the fate of the division no matter what division your opponent is from.

Is there a reason why they don't change up the rotation every few years?
Are we stuck with the same UT, OU, TTU rotation until the end of the Big XII.

Then why is the biggest game every year (typically) Texas/OU played early in big 12 season?

So which ever team loses has a chance to recover and move back up the rankings by the end of the year.

I've often wondered this as well. Cyclones.com shows this same rotation on our schedule through 2015. It would sure be nice to switch it up occasionally.

Also, every other school in the South (Baylor, OSU, A&M, and Tech) plays one home and one away against OU and UT, meaning we are the only school that ever has to play both on the road in the same year. Of course, that also means we are the only school that ever gets to play both at home in the same year, but we have never been good enough to take advantage of that.

Because it's played as part of the Texas State Fair. Almost every other rivalry game in the conference is played in the last two weeks of the season.

I think it is this way because it is played at the Cotton Bowl, which is inside the fairgrounds of the Texas State Fair. Their state fair is awesome, and is going on during this time. That is why it happens when it does I believe.

That game is always played during the Texas State Fair at the Cotton Bowl...
