So how DO you stop a team like Texas Tech?

I thought Clone9 made an interesting comment in another thread. He wants to recruit playmakers like TT has, that can take a five yard route, to the house. I agree with 9 and also maintain our offense next year will be pretty darn good. If we could STOP Texas Tech, we could stop anyone. Defensive guru's, how do you stop a team who's scheme typically has the ball out of the quarterbacks hands in less than three seconds? They use four and five receiver sets that clear out an area for a short route or for the hot read if blitzed. Would you recruit all possible speed at linebacker? How do you beat these guys?

3-4 D, speedy LB's and drop a d-lineman into coverage once a series. Very simplistic I know, alot more to it, must eat.

How do you stop a team like Texas Tech? - A 12 gauge shot gun - anything less will only slow them a bit.

Re: So how DO you stop a team like Texas Tech?

my vote is for a 3-3-5...

you have 5 defensive backs in the game at all times while maintaining the ability to stop the run with 3 linebackers. If you have a beast in the center of the DL and fast guys on the outside you can get away with rushing 3. But the 3-3-5 also allows for creative blitzes from the linebackers. You need good athletes to do this but I think that it would be good against the spread.

Create pressure on the QB with the 4 D-Linemen.

Run the ball and take time off the clock. The kNU did that and took them to OT.

Hope for bad weather to muck up the timng in their passing game...

As much speed as possible on defense and sure tackling.

Strip for the ball everytime you get a chance. Turnovers are how their offense is getting stopped now.

!. Get Michael Crabtree off to the NFL.

Then, what all you guys said.

Extra corners, a pass rush (in combination to take time off the clock), and a running game for ball control. Having a lead, and a supportive crowd also help.

why do we even need to worry about it? i mean, it seems that half the people on this board have conceded a loss to them, texas and oklahoma as well as a completely lost season any time we play them?

Re: So how DO you stop a team like Texas Tech?

You could call Tonya Harding and see if Brian Sean Griffith is available for hire. Except that would be illegal and I believe the aforementioned Mr. Griffith is no longer available due to his untimely demise.

Otherwise, you have to have speed at the LB position and be able to take away the underneath routes and defend the TB out of the backfield. Not sure if I would blitz much from the safety position as you will need help for the CB. If you do blitz you need to eb able to defend the hot route. In reality, I have no idea but this sounds like it should work.

Let me tell you, it's next to impossible to stop them with Iowa State if you play them in an exhibition on Heisman in NCAA Football '09

Re: So how DO you stop a team like Texas Tech?

you half to apply pressure from the DE spot and the middle so the QB has no where to scramble and make sure your have your corners right on the WR and drop the linebackers and have a safety play zone to help out the corners

Is this what Texas tried to do? I am sure Oklahoma will attempt to do this next weekend, as well. Is interior defensive line speed (and therefore penetration, ergo pressure) more important than trying to disrupt pass routes and make the quarterback hold the ball longer? I guess I am trying to make the point that if he has noone to throw to...................? It seems to me that in this scheme, linebackers and corners are more important but I am NO FOOTBALL GUY. Is the answer 3-3-5?

Re: So how DO you stop a team like Texas Tech?

T Tech's offense is based completely on timing. The key to slowing them down is to jam their receivers at the line of scrimmage. If you can knock their recievers off their routes it will make their QB hang in the pocket longer than they want which allows your d-line the time to get pressure.

The problem is that most defenses aren't loaded with cover corners and cover safeties so they play zone d against tech to try to "hide" their deficiencies. And T Tech preys on zone d...
