    Recruiting Big Men

I'm pretty ignorant but I'm also curious as to why we aren't recruiting bigs with our recruiting classes? We are going after a solid small forward which I get (Gilstrap for next year, hopefully Barnes the following year). For guards, we have Kadima for 2010 as well as Garrett, Buckley, Christopherson, Staiger, Boozer, and Eikmeier. We are also after Colvin and Jordan. That would mean we would have 9 scholarship guards (if we signed Colvin and Jordan, but would have 7 at the minimum) for the 2010 season. For bigs we have Hamilton, Mann, Vanderbeken, Pomlee, and Brackins. If Brackins has a big year this year or next, he is gone. Vanderbeken is gone after 2 years and is replaced by Dykstra. Other than Dykstra and Kelm, who do we have a shot with for bigs??? Cyismydog, I better see at least 10 posts from you

Jordan is no longer an option. Colvin is and your point still stands.

    Re: Recruiting Big Men

I've wondered this too? We really don't have many/any good big centers and we haven't seemed to be targeting any.

L.A. Pomlee, Clinton Mann, Justin Hamilton, Jamie Vanderbeeken, Chris Ceaser.

O.K. maybe Ceaser graduated but we have 4 guys. 3 of them are freshman. I think we need a 3 worse than anything. We have Gillstrap comming in but he only has 1 year so who do we have after him. Don't say his name either. So my concern would be the 3. However I would take Colvin in a second.

With only 1 being a center. A center who has only really played basketball for a couple of years. I wish their was some insight on the no big man recruiting as well.

First, there aren't a lot of great centers out there. Many of the players that end up there, started as PF. Homan played center for us, but I believe he came in more as a PF type.

    Re: Recruiting Big Men

You got to work with what you can get. There are only so many good ones out there.

I think the game has gravitated to more of a power forward game anyway.

I talked to Tim FLoyd in Minneapolis once regarding how he found Cato. He replied that many of those big kids feel out of place in high school, so you have to go where they are, and sometimes that means watching the street ball leagues. Obviously that raising the recruiting risk of grades, but ya gotta go where the talent is. We have tried pulling some of the bigger guns out of Minnesota and Wisconsin the last couple of years, but haven't been able to seal the deal. Not as if G Mac isn't trying. I expect to see more PF types.

    Re: Recruiting Big Men

I have followed basketball recruiting for years now and I can tell that that center is probably the hardest position to recruit for. When there is a good center all of the big time schools come calling. There just isnt alot of quality centers out there and so when there are some alot of schools try to get the few good ones available.

In the '09 signing class, centers are exceptionally thin. For '10 or '11, we will probably see the situation change.

I thought I heard he has a relative in HS in DSM. Can anyone confirm?
