    College football rankings beef

I see that in one of the polls, they have Oklahoma ahead of Texas. They have the same record and we all know Texas beat OU straight up. I just don't get it!

To me, it's either from two things:

    1. Texas had their loss later in the year and apparently it was enough to drop them below a team they beat.

    2. The games really are played on paper because if the voters went by results, it's obvious.

    Small beef, but just annoying.

Oklahoma will jump ahead of everyone will likely play in NC by beating TT. So it doesn't really matter where they are ranked now.

If it doesn't matter where they're ranked now....why even rank

I guess the weekly ranking tries to get it right, but BCS is a system that DOES NOT work. I agree with you. Texas should be ranked higher than Oklahoma and we all know why.

They probably rank so they can put a little number next to the team name and can then promote games with "ranked" teams.

They also have Missouri ahead of Okie St. Goes to show how much thought and research the pollsters expend. It fricking drives me crazy to expect that a college coah has any time or energy to put into this process during the season.

NOW THAT IS INSANE to put Missouri ahead of Oklahoma State. STUPID!

So teams can't improve or get worse as the season progresses? Just because Texas beat OU 4 weeks ago doesn't mean they are still the better team. I think when people rank teams they should rank them based on who they think is better right now. I'd say a lot of people feel OU is a better team than Texas right now. Can't say I'd argue too much with that.

Then Iowa should be ranked because they are the hottest team in big 10. It doesnt work that way. Your record should always count. Texas beat Oklahoma and it doesnt matter how good Oklahoma is doing, they should be ranked lower than Texas at this moment.

Agree to a point, but Texas' loss is to the #2 team in the country, and OU lost to Texas. Had Texas been beaten by Mizzou, for example, rather than TT, it would be easier to justify.

So when OU beats Tech (who beat UT) and OSU, then they should still be ranked lower than Texas? That's basically what you're saying.

So if Texas has 1 loss to Tech, and OU has 1 loss to UT, and Tech has 1 loss to OU, where do you rank them? I guess they are all tied for 2nd behind Alabama? Using your logic, it would be impossible to rank them otherwise.

And if someone has the opinion that Iowa is the 25th best team in the country (or better) then they should rank them accordingly. That's what the rankings are - opinion polls. You rank the best teams in the country according to how good you think they are on that particular day.

I wonder if weekly rankings would be different if votes were done on Thursdays. Not as much emotion from the previous game and closer to the next game.

    Re: College football rankings beef

On top of all the things mentioned above why did Texas Tech not leapfrog Alabama for the #1 spot. Alabama had to go to OT to beat #16 LSU, where Tech beat the poop out of #9 OSU. The BCS does not make sense and this is yet another arguement for a playoff. Just think if OU beats TT and Alabama drops the SEC championship to Florida do we se a Utah/Boise St. Champinoship game (kidding). In all reality if there is a log jam of one loss team do me suprised to see a Big Ten/SEC championship debacle.

You can't rank teams based on how they did four weeks ago.

I really think this will happen too. Sad but true.
