    Iowa State headed up...Iowa down...

Look at the fortunes of Iowa State and Iowa.
    1. Football: If Iowa loses its bowl game, it will be 6-7...hardly enough wins for the 4 million dollar coach. His head will be on the line next year. Iowa State, all positive press with the new hire and fortunes headed up.
    2. Basketball: Iowa State has the most popular coach in the state in GMac, Iowa's Alford will likely be fired at the end of the year at the rate he is going, and no one likes him anyway
    3. Wrestling: Cael has the Cyclones headed for Number One
    4. Womens B Ball. Iowa State just beat Iowa
No matter how you slice it, the Cyclones fortunes seem to be on the upswing, and the Hawkeyes DOWN.....
    GO STATE!!!!!

Just the way it should be too......Keep the Pukeye fans ego's in check. Hopefully in the end, EIU will be forced to downgrade to a community college...

I wouldn't count out Iowa's wrestling program. While Cael is heading in the right direction, Iowa's coach is no slouch.....and we all know that his assistant coach is pretty good (gable).

Also look at Alford's track record. His teams have been all over the board, and he was steadily and widely reviled by Hawk fans for years and years, yet never got fired during any of that. To his fortune, a lot of Hawkeyes are FINALLY starting to come around and support him as a coach. Unless his teams start tanking consistently, he's not any more likely to get fired than Ferentz is.

that is a pretty weak schedule.

Must be nice not having to play either Michigan OR Ohio State til '09

Ferentz is too good of a coach to lose 6 (maybe 7) games in succesive years, and I don't know we win 6 games next year. Hope we do, but as pointed out the schedule for wins is in the Hawks favor.

ISU in generally all sports are looking up. IU may be picking up some strength in wrestling. The ISU football program should be able to build some financial backbone, once it grows further.

I've heard the push is on for Ferenz to fire several asst coaches...not a good spot to be in for him. Lot's of fan unrest. A win for ISU next year over Iowa would be HUGE.

Re: Iowa State headed up...Iowa down...

Obviously the outlook is good for ISU and in my mind at least it is because of the man in charge of the department. I have talked to many Hawk fans who will actually admit that they are jealous of Pollard and only wish Barta could jump off to half of Pollard's start. I love the thought though of EIU being the next big community college.

Re: Iowa State headed up...Iowa down...

This is how I sit with Iowa. As much as I like for them to lose to us. I am torn with losses to everyone else. I dont like the general buzz and ego of some of the hawkeyes, but they are a State of Iowa team. I dont want other states and conferences thinking we dont have good athletics. they already have a poor view on ISU which bothers me. I would rather have U of I be a great team and we beat them frequently then to have them continue to suck and its not a worthy win.

    Bravo!

That's exactly how I feel. It's such a hard position to be in mentally, but I really do think it's the right thing to do. When they're not playing against us, we should be cheering on UNI and UI teams. (Panthers have that down- I don't know a single UNI student or family member who isn't also a rabid Cyclone or Hawkeye fan...)

Whether or not you think it's deserved, the UI has a rep for having strong athletics, and we don't (in most cases). I want a win over the Hawks as much as anyone else, but I would much rather win against a Hawk team that only winds up losing a few matches per season, no matter what the sport. Iowa State consistently beating a strong Iowa athletic department will do wonders for our national respect.

More importantly, we should be supporting the athletes that are coming from our state's schools. I would much rather see the state of Iowa pull out a win over any other state. Just think- if both ISU and UI's fanbases bought into this, not only would we be dragging the sports spotlight to Iowa, but we would be building the state's reputation as producing talented athletes at powerful programs with incredible fans. Sure, every school has their rabid fans. How many schools have cheering sections from their biggest rival?

    + Rep for you!

Even with possibly 6 losses at hand, Ferentz is on of the best coaches in the nation. There will be bad seasons which fans got to understand will happen. This season could have been pointed in numerous directions of why the underachievment, but one this is certain; everyone is getting older, wiser, stronger, and they have a very highly recruited QB stepping to the helm that should bring a different leadership to this team. I could see some assistants going, but not Ferentz.

This guy has been a disappointment for sure. His track record hasnt been very good, and the troubles outside the court are not very appealing either. Unfotunately, I would have to agree on this statement.
    3. Wrestling: Cael has the Cyclones headed for Number One
Well you cant agrue with this. He is really doing great things for this program. Maybe not #1 as of yet, but near close enough to touch it. But as stated above, Iowa has some great talent too. Right now was just a time like the football team. You are going to have periods of not enought success. Both teams will dig their way out and up.
    4. Womens B Ball. Iowa State just beat Iowa

This was a great win for ISU and the Cy-Hawk series. I wouldn't jump and concluded Iowa is going down because of this; its just we're better.

Thats all I got to say about that.

As a long time Clone FAN (over 45 yrs), I have always been jealous of the Iowa football schedule!

I would absolutely LUV to play Minnesota, Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue each and every year.

Thats usually good for a 5-0 record every year for the hawks.

Just picture me jealous and envious.

    Go Clones Beat the Hawks!!
