    Recruiting Small Forwards

While traditional 1-5 positions aren't as important with more athletic and flexible players, but we seem to have a hard time recruiting a traditional slashing 3 the last few years. This team seems to be devoid of one, and will likely see us play three guards regularly. I know we expected to have WJ playing there this year. We swung and whiffed at some fairly highly ranked threes this year. I know that will all be forgotten if we get the Mother-of-all-recruiting-coups in HB for 2010. Yes, I am not forgetting our seems-to-be-one-year-rent-a-player Gilstrap for next year. However, with the imbalance of noone in this position on the team, where do we go if, God forbid, we don't get HB?

Trust me, there will be some good 3's coming up.

HB isn't the only 2010 SF that we are recruiting. If we don't get him we'll get somebody else. Just not as good. :)

Exactly. 2010 will be a very good recruiting class with or without HB

    Re: Recruiting Small Forwards

In basketball these days, the line is a bit blurry between the 2 and the 3. There are more and more guards that are fitting the profile of the SF.

I guess I just am not seeing a big difference between the 2 and 3 AND the 4 and 5 these days....

Wes J and Clark where what I would call your typical 3 G. We don't have one at this point you are correct but with a system like Mac Runs the two and 3 can be switched at any time and the slashing isn't as important.

    Re: Recruiting Small Forwards

Clark is good from what I've heard. As of right now, I'm not sure we're too serious with Peterson. He's unathletic, but can shoot. Still recruiting spearman, but I don't think we're going after him very hard. T.J. Taylor was a coach Pre recruit. We backed off after Pre left...T.J. is more than likely going to Oklahoma. I don't think we are in on Green either. Eliaison is very good, but he is getting more calls by the day.

I guess what I think we are missing without a good small forward at 6'6" or 6'7" is someone who is both athletic enough to guard on the wing, but big enough to not get abused on swithes in the paint. We don't have that now. That wasn't such a big deal when Stevey was playing as he could jump out of the gym and was built like a wall. That would seem to give us more options pressing.
