    Ames vs. SE Polk

Wow!!! Did anyone else see this game last night. That was one of the craziest games I have seen, aside from the 6OT game Ames had with Valley. Go AMES!!

    Re: Ames vs. SE Polk

I listened to KXNO's coverage on the way home from a meeting last night and yes, what a crazy game.

With Ames down 14 with 4 minutes to play, they score, recover and on-side kick, and score with 12 seconds left to send the game to OT. Ames should have won in the 3rd OT but fumbled on the 1 yard line. And then a botched extra point by SE Polk in the 4th OT is the difference in the game.

    Crazy game.

I haven't watched high school football since I was in high school... Do they do OT like in college?

No, in high school they get the ball on the 10 yard line, and they don't have to start going for two after the 2nd overtime

I think it would be good if they did switch it to being like college though. The 10 is just to close to start at.

I was quite confused when i saw them go out there and they lined up on the 10 yard line

I was busy watching Ankeny destroy Waukee. Ames better be ready for a team that is averaging 49 points, 400 rushing and 100 passing yards. They are peeking at the right time. I predict Ankeny 48 - 21.

I really don't follow highschool sports anymore but can someone tell me did Ames change their school colors? I remember them being black and orange but I could have sworn I saw them wearing black and gray during the sports-cast the other night.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

School colors are still orange and black, but they haven't used orange much in the football unis. Used to be pretty much all black with some white and orange trim, but they have gone to this gray lately. Not a fan.

The year or two after I graduated, they got those ugly ugly jerseys. I loved it when we had All black pants and black jersey's with orange stripes down the side.

    Re: Ames vs. SE Polk

I was at the SE Polk vs. Ames game on Monday night. I would have to lay blame with the coaches on the SE Polk loss (Ames win) on one play & it wasn't the extra point that cost SE Polk the game.

In the 4th qtr., Ames had the ball on approx. their 40 yard line with 4th down & 6. Ames was trailing at this time 28-14. Ames brought their punt unit onto the field with 5 minutes left in the ballgame.

Apparently the SE Polk coaches thought Ames was really going to punt, even though I was standing along the fence & yelling "fake punt". I can't believe SE Polk sent players into the punt formation. Did SE Polk really believe Ames was going to punt the ball away & hope to get it back before time runs out???

So Ames fakes the punt, gets a 1st down, scores & then scores again after recovering an onside kick to tie the game at 28-28. (Sorry for the rambling)

My point is, SE Polk plays prevent defense on the 4th down play and stops Ames, giving the ball back to SE Polk; game over & there is no issues on the mishandled extra point in OT.

Shame on the SE Polk Coaches for believing that Ames was giving up and ending their season with 5 minutes left in the game.

Good luck to Ames with Ankeny on Friday!

    Re: Ames vs. SE Polk

SEP was in a safe punt defense. They only rushed 4. They knew it was coming, the kids knew it was coming, they just didn't make a play. It wasn't the coaches fault.

p.s. I like the new uniforms

    That game was certainly awesome...

Not quite as awesome as Roland Story putting a thump on Gilbert.
