Our school needs to change the name:
Iowa State Young Cyclones (for bball and fball).

    Re: Cyclones turn to youngsters

I don't find this encouraging at all for this year. However, due to the youth (similar to the FB program) I'll hope - and then give the staff a pass on this season. I wasn't as generous last season, I thought the talent was better than the results.

And if the team overachieves, I'll give much credit.

What's the story on the rumors of a changed offense this year?

Getting to the free throw line might be a problem...We have a lot of jump shooters.

Here is a quote from Big Ham recently that might provide some insight: "JH: The two biggest things would be the understanding of all the offensive sets that Coach Mac has for us and my rebounding."

Retention should be much improved....The young guys are still thinking way too much, but we are throwing a lot at them.

We have guard experience this year. We had none last year. I can't believe how many people miss that point. Overall, we have much more experience coming back this year than we did last year.

Last year our guys were overthinking way too much. With the season this close they should be to the point where their instincts take over and the coaches system is second nature...

So does this mean we're going to be running a series of set plays or are we running an offense? I know that's simplistic, but I hope you understand what I'm trying to ask.

    Re: Cyclones turn to youngsters

I'm surprised (and a little discouraged) to hear that AT will be starting. I just figured that one of the newcomers would be able to beat him out. I hope that means AT improved a lot during the offseason. Most of you guys are probably too young to remember Brad Lohaus and Les Jepsen. Those guys really made a huge leap during their senior years at Iowa and even played for a while in the NBA. Now I doubt AT has that ability, but it would sure be nice if he could just average around 8 points and 8 boards for us.

Everybody wants the athlete for the espn highlight real....I want the basketball player first than the athlete. Obviously both is the best(HB)...Some might disagree, but it makes a huge difference.

Mac's sets are designed to get players in the right spot and the right time...to teach them how to make a read and take what the defense gives them.

I don't disagree with you. This is a very different question when posed to FB versus BB. That said, I thought the players and talent last year were better than what the record showed. I know there were lots of reasons for that so I'm not trying to start a separate discussion and am not stoning the staff.

But forget that dinstinction for now. The one thing I'm most concerned with is that ISU runs an offense that has the chance to be highly successful in the Big XII. Even though the league will likely be down this year, I think most fans will be much more likely to accept the results and bank on the future if they see the future.

Also keep in mind that the league will return a lot of players for the '09/'10 season. Much of the pecking order for future seasons will be established this season.

I've been pleased with the news about Eikmeier. I know he's been knocked for various reasons, but I hope he can be a great get for the program.

I've been thinking...does anyone remember the Galloway kid from Sioux City that went to Iowa? He was not incredibly athletic, kind of slight, and fairly one-dimensional, but he got open and knocked down shots. I think Wes could do that for us.

Shot the ball well...defensively, he is getting his feet infront of people...Still bouncing around a lot from lack of strength and weight.
