What happens if Tech loses to OU?

Then... Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas all have one loss against one another. Who does the tiebreaker go to?

they play a round-robin tourney. then they get seeded by total pts scored, then a single elim tourney. i'm not sure, but i like my idea. i would like to see these 3 play each other over and over.

Great question and I am sure there is an answer...but I don't have it. I was wondering about this myself. If two of those teams have 1 loss and the other happens to lose the Big XII Championship...it would really be a mess! Just like last year but with 2 teams vying for a BCS slot without playing in the conference title game.

OK State could also find themselves in the mix, but it will be harder since they have TT and OU in the next 3 weeks.

It was cool to see Tech beat Texas over the weekend, but now a Texas-OU national championship game is obviously out of the realm of possibilities.

Re: What happens if Tech loses to OU?

This was discussed in another thread.

When three or more teams are tied, at any point during the procedures when only two teams remain tied, then the comparison reverts back to head-to-head competition.)

    a) The winner of the game between two tied teams shall be the representative.
    b) If three or more teams are tied, then the record of the tied teams will be compared in a mini round-robin, to determine the representative.
    c) If the teams remain tied, then there will be a comparison of the record of the tied teams within their division.
    d) If the teams remain tied, then there will be a comparison of the record of the tied teams within their respective divisions, beginning with the next highest placed team(s) within the division and proceeding through the other placements in order of finish.
    e) If the teams remain tied, then there will be a comparison of the record of the tied teams against all common conference opponents (those common opponents that all tied teams have played).
    f) If the teams remain tied, then the representative will be the highest-ranked team in the first CNN/USA Today Top 25 coaches poll conducted following the completion of Big 12 regular-season conference play.
    g) If none of the teams are ranked in the poll, then the representative will be the team with the best overall winning percentage (excludes exempted games such as 12th games in Kickoff Classic, Hawaii, etc.).
    h) If the teams remain tied, then the representative will be chosen by draw.

Re: What happens if Tech loses to OU?

I believe the first tiebreaker would be head to head, which obviously isn't much good since they will all have beat each other.

Second tiebreaker is record against the 4th place team in the division (in this case it would be Okie State, which ostensibly all three teams would have beaten).

If they are all the same after that, I think it goes to record vs. the 5th/6th place teams, which they would all have had to beat as well.

Then I think it goes to record against common North division opponents, which would be KU.

If those are identical I think it then goes to the BCS standings.

This would, of course, just choose the Big XII South conference champion, who would then have to play the North conference champion in the championship game.

If the South team loses that game, then you would have two 1 loss teams from the Big XII South, both with strong cases for BCS berths, and a 2 loss team (ostensibly) as the Big XII champion, which would earn an automatic BCS berth.

    Interesting scenario.

Re: What happens if Tech loses to OU?

So technically Tech, Texas and OU can all still end up 7-1 in the conference and 4-0 non conference. Okie State could still finish 5-3. That's a tough tough conference.

Re: What happens if Tech loses to OU?

Tech has to play Okie State this weekend, and play OU at Norman, and then finish with Baylor at home. Then most likely play Mizzo for Championship. If they win out they deserve to be in the National Championship game. They could however end up with two losses. Kind of crazy to think OU could be a 3 loss team since they still have to play TT and Okie State (in Stillwater).

Re: What happens if Tech loses to OU?

I think this year it'd be fair to put Big 12 vs. SEC winner in the title game

and Penn State vs. USC in the Rose bowl. Both games would rock.

    I'd watch both - it'd be epic...
