I was happy our guys played hard

To me it looked like we quit trying during the Baylor and Nebraska games but even in a loss against aTm I thought our boys showed great effort. Despite the blowout yesterday I really thought our guys were actually trying and to be honest, that's about all we can ask for at this point.

On a side note, I've always read about people on this board talking about our poor safety play but I've never actually noticed it. Finally I saw what everyone was talking about, wow did they have an awful game or what. They never seemed to be in the right place to help out the corner backs. We really need some help here.

Not to pick on them, but other teams sure do. Our safeties get themselves out of position all the time. They are also not fast enough to recover from mistakes they make. Another thing contributing to this is we are not stout enough in the middle at DT. Our safeties probably have to help a lot more to stop the running game, thus putting themselves more out of position.

I'm not into moral victories, this team has been a huge disappointment this year and it's getting really hard to watch us get slaughtered every week lately. I don't care who the opponent is, this past month of games has shown that we have a LONG ways to go to be competitive again. It's one thing to get beat by a better team but heck even the bottom of the Big 12 south in Baylor and A&M are taking us to the woodshed this year.

Maybe I misread ESPN last night, but those bottom of the Big XII South teams had a pretty good week, with A&M knocking off CU and Baylor taking a ranked Missouri to the wire.

We're weak on D. Whenever the leading tackler on a team is a Safety, you've got issues.

No offense but I do not want to ever see a title like this again for a thread. This team stinks and needs lots of immediate help.

I know Chizik does not want to go the JUCO route, but ISU needs immediate help on both lines. I would think a safety is something you could get out of high school fairly easy. Can A. Bell play some safety for the rest of the year to shore things up?

We may need a juco safety and defensive end for 2009.

I'm pretty sure you are being sarcastic, but I fear a large percentage of the fan base truly accept this line of thinking. The game can be sumed up in two words...

Re: I was happy our guys played hard

One other thing that really stood out to me was how slow we are on defense. There were times when we had the ball carrier boxed in, then we'd miss on a tackle and he'd just outrun us to the corner and take it for 20+. Even worse was watching them score on a pair of field-length touchdowns. And while our D has been in sorry shape, I was not overly impressed with our offense, either. We could have put 30 points on the board yesterday (not enough, I know, but still), but turnovers killed us.

At least Ron Franklin was impressed with our punt unit, particularly Mike Brandtner. "He's had an outstanding afternoon." Thanks, Ron.

Re: I was happy our guys played hard

correct me if im mistaken...plus i had to watch at a buddies house on a small laptop(espn 360) and was semi distracted by other games on tv, but did the LJ and Banks play more man-defense than usual?

id been clamouring to try it out more than before....did i imagine this?

Would you prefer, "I'm glad our team rolled over and played dead in the second half"?

This team stinks and needs lots of immediate help.
We all know that. That's why we're all glad that they're just not quitting and fiving up, like some people around here.

Sure, they had some major mistakes in the first hals, and let the game get out of hand. They settled down and didn't make those same mistakes in the second. However, they also didn't have the same kind of opportunities.
