Why the different cardinal colors for ISU teams?

The football team has one cardinal and at least some of the other teams are getting a different color of cardinal.

Is it because the football team is using a Nike Elite color?

    Thanks!

(And yes, I am aware there have probably been a bunch of threads about this, but I am not on this site very often, so I apologize in advance.)

Re: Why the different cardinal colors for ISU teams?

I've noticed in a lot of pics that the cardinal seems very dark...almost A&M, OU, or Minnesota dark. I was all for going darker, but some of the unis look like they've gone too far.

Re: Why the different cardinal colors for ISU teams?

I didn't want to bring up yet another new uniform/new cardinal thread, but since someone else did:

I noticed on Saturday that the uniforms the dance team were wearing were very dark cardinal. So dark that when my wife and I first saw them, we thought they were A&M's cheerleaders.

Re: Why the different cardinal colors for ISU teams?

I've been disappointed in the way the color change has been handled. I liked the new logo, I like the new colors, but they need to be consistent across the board and across the teams. Similarly, the various gradients used in third-party apparel is also confusing.

I'm a fan of how most things have been handled under Pollard, but this is one area where I think they weren't consistent enough from the get go and it's only gotten worse.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Lack of caring by the Athletic Department.

If they cared... all uniforms would have been the same. Samples would have been seen, and if they did not match the samples.. we would have sent them back.

This is the only Pollard deal that has been bad planning.

i think it would be sweet if all jerseys were modeled after the football jerseys, with the rings around the shoulders.

Yeah.... not only are the colors not consistent but some of them don't even seem to come close

Case in point - the Dance Team that looked like A&M cheerleaders.

The biggest contrast looks to be the new extra dark dance team apparel compared to the carryover bright red band uniforms. I know that new band uni's are a big expense and that they typically target to get a number of years of wear out of them. They probably also do not get much if any sponsorship discounts from manufacturers such as Nike or whoever supplies band uni's.

The university still has the old set of colors also. (Yes the university has colors.)

The dance team (just my guess) is not or not entirely funded by the athletic department (someone can tell me if I am wrong). A lot of those groups buy their own uniforms through fundraising etc.

The athletic teams, however, should all be under the AD's watch.

For what it's worth, most of the dance team girls agree with the opinions here- that most of their uniform pieces are too dark red. That said, the dance team IS a part of the athletic department; they are a cheerleading squad. They have to do some fundraising to be on the squad, but so do all the other cheerleaders.

As for band uniforms: correct, the Department of Music gets absolutely no discounts out of Athletics' deal with Nike. (Nike doesn't make marching band uniforms, btw...) The uniforms are not going anywhere; to outright replace all the uniforms for a band the size of Iowa State's would require an astronomical donation. As I have been told, they will be getting new overlays (the removable reversible chest part with the logos on each side) for next year, but new pants are at least four years away, simply because of the huge cost. New jackets are not in the foreseeable future.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Someone mentioned the nice, newly-repainted signage at the cross-country course, where the Big 12 Championships are held tomorrow.
So I drove by to take a look - wow, a bright, almost candy-apple red. Yet another shade...

Re: Why the different cardinal colors for ISU teams?

I thought when they launched the new color it came with a color spec number. Seems to me that no one on the VB or Dance team even looked at the number when ordering. It must be kind of like our Defense, things just slipped through. DOH!

When I saw the dance team I also thought they were aTm cheerleaders. I thought aTm changed their policy on their Yell Leaders...(all dudes ).
