    Chiziks recruiting methods.

Is it me or does it seem Like Coach Chizik is recruiting at Iowa State like you would at Texas. I beleive Chizik will get it turned around. It's just at the end of last years recruiting cycle he as booting commits for taking other trips.

I was curious as to weather of not we were getting players that were not as good as the players he pulled there offer from.

Then this money Renolds apparently wanted to committ but we would not let him until he spoke with Chizik.

Now I get that Chizik wants to meet and speak with future players. This kid is a 4 star recruit. Why would Chizik now just want to speak with him. If that statement was true. I would think Chizik would be all in on this kid.

I think Chizik is straight up with recruits. He wants to meet with them and feel them out for a team fit. He also puts it all on the table on what he wants them to do and what they would be open for should they be needed to do it.

If recruiting like Texas means 4 and 5 star athletes I'm all for it.

Another...second guessing thread, enough is enough.

Gene runs the program - it's his. I'd be concerned if he was letting guys in the door without talking to them.

Also, talking to a potential prospect vs. the same guy once he's ready to commit is two very different things, two very different conversations.

Yeah I am all for those type of recruits. The problem is we are not Texas. We need to recruit different.

    1) God, I hope so...have you seen the kind of players UT has?

    2) He only sent kids packing that had committed and told him they would not make other trips when they then changed their minds and decided to visit another school as I understand it.

    3) What is so shocking about the head coach wanting to meet with a player before he commits?

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Yeah, and he was also sealing the deal on guys like LJ, Benton, and Sedrick Johnson.

I have no beef with his methods whatsoever. He's looking for guys who are 100 percent committed to ISU. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Why do we need to recruit differently? I find this to be a very self-limiting attitude.

    Re: Chiziks recruiting methods.

Chik drives a hard bargain. I believe he is as honest as can be and he requires that from his recruits. Not to rag on coach mac, but down the stretch he had several players that never saw the field...why, i dont know...but apparently those kids were not that great of recruits(or greatly driven people for that matter).

to answer a question about running off good recruits, look at darks, or LJ coming in immediately and making waves. I believe there is a certain type of character Gene wants on this team.

yes ISU is not Texas, but you ever see a guy whos average looking with a hot girl? If you arent Texas, you can at least act like you are Texas.

    Re: Chiziks recruiting methods.

Small things like the Chiz's process of meeting each recruit personally as well has hiring a team chaplin.... er... 'Life Coach" in my opinion is this difference between having a solid, respectful team as opposed to a team with a news headline ever other weekend involving a player getting in trouble.

    Longest sentence ever.

    Re: Chiziks recruiting methods.

I hope Chizik is keeping in mind "Quality over quantity." I do like the idea of recruiting athletes and grooming them into players, I just don't know the success ratio with that. Either way, I think he's got us going in the right direction on all accounts, especially discipline.

maybe for better results? you were joking with this post, right?

As far as depth goes though, the combination of White, Woodbury, Olaseni, Basabe, and Uthoff is much better than Niang, Ejim, Edozie, Gibson. Not because of the top 2, but because of the next 2 or 3. -DeanVogs
