    Fastest web browser yet?

The alpha version of Minefield - basically Firefox 3.1 alpha - is out there for testing, and I have to say, I think it's the fastest browser I've tried yet.

    Index of /pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk

Plus, at least a couple of critical extensions work (adblock plus and noscript).

Pfft, I'll wait until browsers are fast enough that the page loads before I even know I want to go there.

Isn't that called a pop up?

True, I had no idea I even wanted to meet attractive singles in my area until my browser told me.

On a different note...I had no idea there were portable apps. My work site only has IE 6 installed and I hate it! A friend of mine sent me a site that allowed me to download Firefox 3 onto a flash drive. Now when at work I can use Firefox! Great stuff! Guess it just goes to show you that when you think you know a lot about technology...something comes along and shows you that you don't know much about technology!

That could be dangerous if you are at work.

    Re: Fastest web browser yet?

Several programs exist that allow you to turn your flash drive into a portable computer. You just load up the flash drive with the software which allows you to install any number of applications. Then you basically turn any computer into your personal computer by inserting your flash drive. It's pretty sweet. U3 is an example but there are others.

Could you explain that more? I just got one last weekend and am curious on what your talking about.

U3 comes preinstalled on many flash drives but is not free if you don't already have it. This is PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB drives. It does a good job of explaining itself.

    Re: Fastest web browser yet?

Back in the ancient days of PCs, all software was "portable". It came on floppy disks and you ran it off the floppies. Even in early HD days, you just copied the files from the floppy to a folder on the hard drive. No need for registry entries, or system DLLs, or fancy install programs, or any of that stuff. If you wanted to "uninstall" the software, you just deleted the folder where it resided. Nice to see that we are returning to the sanity of those times...

What are some programs that you've found useful to put on the flash drive?

Anti spyware stuff for fixing people's computers, process explorer, firefox, flashfxp and a ton of other little utilities here and there.

Mozilla, because then you have all of your bookmarks with you. Thunderbird makes email pretty convenient on a public computer. Games, of course. Something to compress/uncompress files. Filezilla. Open Office also comes in handy so I can have the same productivity software no matter what computer I'm on.

The only thing about FF that I don't like is the amount of system resources it requires.

Its not FF's fault that you have 20 tabs of CF open.
