Someone else has had direct snap practice.

Leonard Johnson has had a bit of practice time getting direct snaps according to Coach Chizik when asked about the possibility on tonights call-in show. Wasn't he a high school quarterback as well?

    Go Cyclones.

Yeah I heard it too. I mentioned it briefly in another thread, that and Chizik has talked about more trick plays in general too. He seemed to hint that we may see a fake punt sooner than later as well. I wonder if that was in the gameplan on Saturday, but we just never were in a position to punt.

And yes, LJ did play QB in high school.

What was everything that Chizik talked about on the show tonight?

Sorry SeattleClone, I missed that. cyclonez7 I will leave other points Coach made tonight to others, but I should probably mention that he took the time to make the point that when he is recruiting a prospect he makes it very clear that it is a two way street. He stresses this point to the parents as well. I am paraphrasing now, but he said if your son is injured in his next game, HE IS STILL A CYCLONE because ISU has made the commitment to him. He expects this to be reciprocated.

Glad to see us working on thinking outside the box on offense. Its pretty obvious that our defense isn't going to win any games for us, we need to keep the offense rolling to even have a chance to win.

No worries, I wasn't trying to take the credit all to myself, I just wanted to re-empahsize it and the whole trick play thing. I got the feel that we would've seen a fake punt if the opportunity had come up.

He didn't seem to say too much else of importance. Everybody is still behind him 200% and someone (I think Diamond Dave) had to apologize for missing the game because he was sick. Unless Diamond Dave would've been a ref, I don't think his presence would've helped much.

Am I the only one that believes...

    - Coach shouldn't be discussing this publicly.
    - The fact he is, means it won't happen.

Re: Someone else has had direct snap practice.

It kinda makes you wonder what the conversation must be like when discussing the possibility of introducing a guy who may be your best defensive player to the offensive side of the field. You want AA to make the season without injury. You don't want Tiller to lose his shirt. You need to keep some semblance of a running threat for the defense to think about. You don't want to get your "best" defensive player bustin' on linebackers with certain running schemes. You would probably like to produce a passing threat as well as a running threat as long as you have someone else receiving the direct snap. I think it's an interesting gambit. I wonder what Leonard thinks about it. I would guess he is excited about the prospect.

No offense by any means, so please don't take this the wrong way. He is playing in high school football, where more than likely 8 or more of those guys on defense are done playing football in their careers.

Still, he's got wheels and can move, but this is the Big 12.

Re: Someone else has had direct snap practice.

ISUFan22, I found that to be a bit odd as well. A caller had suggested the possibility and Coach Chizik kinda said "well we have been thinking about that possibility, in fact he has taken some snaps" I think is how he phrased it. In retrospect, I sense he MAY have been placating the caller in some small incidental fashion, and/or he might have mentioned it to create a little bit of excitement in the way of a positive thing to look forward to. This is all complete speculation on my part. I imagine he has had a pretty tough several weeks and was glad to be able to speak to something that was a bit of "fun" if you will. I don't know.

Yeah, I read in another post that Gene said tonight to expect more trick plays (fake punts, etc). Again, I just doubt coach would be divulging all that information.

Why not give the other team more to prepare for? He has shown in the past that we would be 'opening up the offense' and then pulled two trick plays last weekend. The Wildhog/Wildcat offense really isn't much of a trick play.
