    Please explain the onside kick

Did anyone watch the game that could tell me what exactly happend on the onside kick? From Jon Walters, is sounds like we should have had it. What happened? What did the replay show? It seemed that even aTm thought they would be on defense.

I would like information on this as well. From where I was sitting, I could see clearly that an A$M player touched the ball before it went the 10 yards, then we pounced on it. Looked like LJ recovered it.

Re: Please expalain the onside kick

According to the replay official the ball never touched an A&M player and since the ball didn't go the minimum required ten yards, A&M got the ball. Apparently, the communication between the booth and the field was misunderstood and that's why they "changed" the call.

    Hit it hard, every yard

They originally ruled the ball as A$M's on the field, before the replay. I'm going to be interested in seeing the replays of that.

The side judge signaled Iowa State...

Does it seem like we get the worst refs in the conference? It seems every game there are issues - not complaining about the calls but it just seems they are somewhat incompetent (sp?).

Re: Please expalain the onside kick

So, I saw the official by the play point towards aTm, then changed his mind like he pointed the right way, and then it got fuzzy. Apparently, they huddled and the official that was right by the play got overruled.

I assume that it was replayed in the booth, and also that, since this wasn't a "prime time" game that there were limited angles for which to properly call the play.

I thought the ball jumped funny after it went past the aTm player, indicating that it hit him.

Unfortunately, the game was just enough out of reach that ISU doesn't get full credit for really getting screwed; the officials made sure of that.

Correct. The side judge ruled Iowa State, which became the official ruling. So they made the ruling, reviewed it, and upheld it. THEN, after reviewing the call and finding it in favor of ISU, they switched possession to A&M. No explanation whatsoever, from anybody. Complete ********.

Those refs are extremely lucky to have armed guard; those are the sort of actions that make people consider physical harm.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Re: Please expalain the onside kick

They showed the TV reply about ten times and each time it clearly showed that no TAMU player touched the ball... they explained that the reply booth had communication probelms in relaying that information to the field judge to overturn the call.

Re: Please expalain the onside kick

Additionally, two older aTm gentlemen that sat behind us were dumbfounded at some of the officiating that went against ISU:
-Intentional grounding - they saw the running back in the are
-AA fumble- the thought AA had the ball firmly in his hand when they hit the grougd - ISU ball
-They were sure that the onside kick was ISU's ball

As I explained some of the calls that ISU fans have weathered over the years (Kansas FB touchdown 3 years ago, Kansas BB three pointer, KU hanging on the rim this year, ...) they were shocked. Then they started talking about the time in 1963 they got screwed against Texas. I laughed.

I also noticed a bias if favor of the South team (Tech) in their game against KU today. Cooper Castleberry was the head ref in that game and every controversial call went against KU (even though they were the home team). I don't think old Coop has ever made a call that went ISU's way.

So, aTm didn't touch the ball and it was clear. All the official had to do was explain that to the crowd and it would have been better.

I was staring right at the ball and I was positive it hit an A&M player. I would love to see the TV replay.

Unfortunately, the TV replys showed all of those plays to have been correctly called, but why the the offical couldn't communicate the calls was also debated by the TV crew most of the evening.
