    Fear the Aggies?

This is the Aggie team that you guys are fearing so much:

    Date Opponent Result
    Aug. 30 Arkansas St. L 14-18
    Sep. 6 at New Mexico W 28-22
    Sep. 20 Miami-FL L 23-41
    Sep. 27 Army W 21-17
    Oct. 4 at OK State L 28-56
    Oct. 11 Kansas State L 30-44
    Oct. 18 Texas Tech L 25-43

Losing at home to Arkansas State. Barely beating a bad Army team at home. Getting run over, through and around by every other team on their schedule--even at home.

For those of you who say "they have an offense", that's against some of the worst defenses in the conference. They only put up thirty on a horrid K-State defense at home.

    Just look at the stats:

They've proven they can win a road game, which is more than we have for a few years. Still optimistic for some reason though.

So, it gets turned around here and now? The worst rushing defense in the conference is a great place to start.

Edit: But I think that would be Rush, not Journey.

For me, it isn't fearing the Aggies. To tell you the truth, I don't fear any team on our schedule. I just wonder which Iowa State team is going to show up. We've proven that we can play with one of the better teams in the conference. But we've also proven that we can get blown out by one of the worst.

I realize that this is a program being rebuilt, and a coaching staff in their second year. Because of that, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if we got blown out on Saturday. Disappointed, yes. But not surprised. The same thing could be said if we blew out A&M. Ecstatic, yes. But not surpised.....

There is one thing I do know, though: being an Iowa State fan is more than winning football. It's about that thought in the back of everybody's mind that something special might happen..... or that you might get kicked in the nuts. Plus the tailgating before and after the game

All right, so maybe some people are fearing our team's performance--or lack thereof. Still, opportunity knocks. And after two weeks, I'm hoping a certain shoulder is feeling better.

    Re: Fear the Aggies?

AA being healthy will be big, but so is Knapp being back at center. I think Oline has been a bigger issue then the passing game. We can't run the ball and we have extra TE's and RB's blocking instead of running routes. If the Oline has a good day, we will win, if not we will play like we have the past two weeks.

    Re: Fear the Aggies?

We could play SDSU tomorrow and I'd be very concerned.

A&M has shown a lot more life on offense than we have in recent weeks.

We really need a win Saturday.

I don't understand the "we need to win" and "must win game" mentality. What is "must" win about it? What happens if we lose? When we were playing to win the Big 12 North or to get into bowl games back in the 2000-2005 window there were games we "needed" to win because we were playing for something. At this point we're not playing for anything; the 2008 season is a write-off. What difference does it make if we finish 2-10 or 3-9, either one will be forgotten a year or two down the road.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

Nobody said "must win", Monty. You said that.

    Re: Fear the Aggies?

Does anyone ever stop and think that maybe, just maybe, aTm is looking at their game with us and thinking, "Wow, we should really be able to win this game."

aTm is coming to Ames to win. We've been circled on aTm's calendar as a must-win game for them. I hope ISU can turn it around, but I'm having serious doubts. I hope that I eat my words, but we're either going to get blown out, or we're going to pull out a close victory. (Does ISU have any other kind of victory? They all seem to be nail biters, no?)
