Firepits at tailgating a no no.

Well as the cop wanna be, power tripping parking lot security guard say "no fire pits are allowed". We tailgate in G7 and I had brought our fire pit last game, started the fire and then were told to put it out. We kind of refused and the guy said he was going to get his fire extinguisher. We let him then after he walked back to his truck and then back to our fire we threw water on it. He then told us to put a log that we had on the ground back into our truck, like it was going to all the sudden start on fire.

So from last weeks discussion, no fire pits, at least in G7. Experience this anywhere else? And does anybody who tailgates in G7 know which Dbag security guard I'm talking about, he needs to be fired, worst attitude ever, should not be around people having fun tailgating.

We had a fire pit all day in C4, no problems at all and had many security guards walk right by when the flame was pretty high, even had some of the ROTC patrol come warm up.

We also had a lid and were using it to keep food warm.

About 5-10 to maybe 6-0. Kinda hefty. Glasses. Directs traffic on the way out of the stadium. Last week (at least) he was driving around in the little Ford Ranger, patrolling the lot.

Yep - I know who you're talking about and he thinks he's pretty important. D-bag is about the right term too. I haven't had any direct run ins with him, but have seen enough of his antics.

After the KU game, some lady in front of me was a little aggitated that he was holding up our line of traffic, but let the other lot empty by about 50 cars or so. He decided to flex his muscles and berate her and let a ton more cars go while the entirety of G7 waited behind her. I was next in line and had my window down so I could hear most all of what he was ranting on. First he threatened to go get a police officer "and she can take it up with them" and went on and on about how "we're getting out of here together", threatened to check her for DUI (???) and then yelled that he was taking down the license plate and they would receive a letter from the athletic department. No joke - this went on for about 5 minutes.

I'm also at a loss why the lot attendants in G7 feel the need to park all the cars. There are lines painted. 95% of the people know how to drive. If you are trying to meet up with another car or two, they make it obscenely difficult. Not to mention that G7 is ever at most 2/3rds full.

Was your pit enclosed with a lid?

Sounds to me like the security guard was power tripping, fire pits have always been allowed.

I was in B4 this weekend and we had no problems with our fire pit. It did have a lid on it, I don't know if that mattered. But we also had the ROTC volunteers stopping by to warm up throughout the morning.

Does any town/city in Iowa big enough to have a stop light allow open burning anymore? I'm not saying I agree with it, just that it shouldn't be a shock to anyone.

If it has a lid then it really isn't any different than a grill. I had a fireman friend tell me that in Des Moines, since they are illegal, all you have to do is have a package of hot dogs or marshmellows with you and you can say you are using it to cook and it's perfectly legal.

How much of a loser do you have to be to flex your authority as a rent a cop?

Open fires are illegal. The key is to have a fire pit with walls and a lid. Those seem to be OK.

I'm guessing this is the difference, if it's open it's not allowed, get one with a lid.

This is exactly what we had, with the lid, and it was a no go in G7.
