    Recruiting prediction

I predict that over the next two months we are going to witness an eleventh hour push that will lead to the highest ranked ISU football recruiting class in history.

Much like GM in basketball I believe we will witness a near miraculous assembling of a recruiting class. Unlike basketball, however, there is no fall signing period which reduces the available pool of athletes. Thus, this staff will have the opportunity to put together a strong class.

Stay tuned. The next couple of months should be quite entertaining.

    Re: Recruiting prediction

highest ever? not sure about that seeing as we only have 5 signed right now and only 1 is a 3 star. his name alone is not going to bring a lot of people quickly to isu. it takes time. i will be happy with a 4 star here and there to start with. when was the last time we had a 4 star?

seneca you need to get your facts right because iowa state has already signed 3-3 stars for the class. Research the facts first.

    Re: Recruiting prediction

Chizik needs to gather 20-some recruits in the space of about 3 months. He will have to work his tail off to pull off one of the best recruiting classes of all time at ISU. (Not to say it can't be done, just will take extreme effort)
With that said, go get 'em Coach Chizik!

    Re: Recruiting prediction

i said it in a post be4 but i belive he will hit the jucos a bit his first time around so he can get some guys with more expierence, then the next get mostly freshmen with some jucos if we need the expirence, then all freshmen because by this time the freshmen u got the last 2 years are sophs and jr's and will have the expierence to teach the incomin class

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

    Re: Recruiting prediction

I'm not sure that it will be a highly ranked class, given the start to the recruiting, and the late start for the new staff. I would guess that there will be a couple high quality recruits, several jucos, and some solid kids to fill it out.

    Re: Recruiting prediction

Actually, both of you need to get your facts right. No one has signed yet. Every recruit in the nation has verbally committed to their respected schools. Gene will need to hit the JUCOS to try to fill immediate needs. Then he has the options to either go after guys who are uncommitted but may not be quite as talented. Or he can try to go after guys who we did or didn't recruit that have already committed elsewhere and see if he can sway a few to change their minds. That may not go off so well with the coaches of the other schools, but I guess Gene has to do what he has to do to win. I certainly wouldn't condone that to be an annual practice of Gene's, like oh say...Bill Snyder did.

    Re: Recruiting prediction

Need to get a kicker found b/c Shaggy is gone next year right? I really think we need to find a few stud juco O and D-line guys and mix them in with highschool recruits. If you search the rivals network of players, there is a lot of talent still not committed right now. A lot of teams have 10-20 players commited right now. We have 5. This will be a challenge.

Culbertson's only a junior now so he'll be here for next year.

    Re: Recruiting prediction

I think Gene will be the equivalent of Greg McDermott in recruiting...I could not be more pleased, I bet he gets some kick-*** asst. coaches to boot and they will produce in recruiting. Next year might be rough with the schedule, but I really think Gene will win... I also hope Dan gets a job soon, he was just to loyal to some asst. coaches that could not get the job done...Hawkeyes & Huskers are looking over their shoulders....HITMAN

    Re: Recruiting prediction

I dont think Chizek will start recruiting hard until he has put a staff together. He is not going to go recruit 20 kids by himself. I think that he will 1st worry about the kids that already have verballed and the ones on the team.

Paul Fisher was a 4 star. As was Walter Nickel. Both of whom were JUCO'S. Only one panned out. Stevie Hicks was a 4 star as was Austin Flynn. Webster Patrick was a 4 star, but he failed to make grades. In 2002 we signed 6 4 star players. Stevie, Flynn, Colin Menard, Curtis James, Federico Samuel, and Max Steward. 3 of them were JUCO's and Stevie and Flynn were the only one's who really paned out. I believe Menard saw some time on the oline though. So there is 9 4 stars in the past 4 years.

Aside from that, Scott Stephenson, Brent Curvey, Tim Dobbins and Lamarcus Hicks were all 2 stars. All 4 will at least be in NFL training camps for a try out. You can't measure heart and desire. Talent alone is worthless!

    Re: Recruiting prediction

I just came across this article in the Ames Tribune about Chizik and recruiting/assistant coach searching. Nothing especially new, but interesting nonetheless.
