    Gold Rules??

I have a major complaint about the game on Saturday that has nothing to do with the team, coaches, play-calling, etc. I only go to 3 games a year because i live in St. Louis and cannot make the drive 6-7 times. I was ultra-excited to see make this trip and see JTS filled with Gold-clad fans on Saturday. Heck, I even went out before the game and spent $70 on a sweatshirt to really be in the spirit of the 'Gold Rules' game.

Imagine my disappointment when the stadium is filling up and I see a crowd filled with more than half Cyclone fans wearing something other than gold. I don't get it - we are supposed to be fans that get into this kind of thing. Why are people not getting on board with things like this?

I went to the 'Black-out' game at Mizzou a couple years ago, and it was very impressive how literally everone was wearing black.

JTS would have looked simply awesome with a sea of gold shirts in the stands. Instead, it looked like any other game at JTS.

Rant over - was just a little disappointed that our fan base can't be bothered to take part in an event designed to show solidarity.

    Re: Gold Rules??

Until the athletics department hands out shirts at the gate (see Penn State whiteout) or incorporates them into the tickets somehow, it won't happen unfortunately.

    Re: Gold Rules??

Someone needs to tell the athletic department not to do "*insert color here rules" day after October starts. Even though it was nice by the second half, its too cold early on and people just want to be warm regardless of the color.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

    Re: Gold Rules??

I was also disappointed with this, especially the student section. But it is also hard to pull off when it seemed as if 30 % of the crowd was Nebraska fans. That was almost as disappointing.

IMO, the marketing for this thing was horrible.

It isn't an event designed to show solidarity, it is an event designed to sell merchandise. Which is why I don't participate in it.

Watching on TV, it seemed about 90% of the crowd was Husker fans.

Well the bast way to change it would be to donate money towards printing shirts for the students. As a student, it is hard to justify buying a new shirt every week instead of groceries.

    Re: Gold Rules??

I had gold on, but it was the gold rules shirt from 2 years ago that said "Beat Nebraska". I guess our team didnt get that message.

That bothered me too. You couldn't tell the ISU fans from the NU fans. The excuse I kept hearing is that they (the people that didn't wear gold) only had gold t-shirts and it was too cold for a t-shirt. I made sure to wear several layers *under* my gold shirt. I don't think that is too much to ask. Of course it's pretty hard to complain about that after the performance on the field.

    Re: Gold Rules??

I know why they have this themed game against Nebraska, but most people don't own a yellow coat or sweatshirt...they have red because, quite frankly, it looks better. Got to have the gold rules game in September when the weather is nice, and you can wear a cheap yellow shirt...

Most aren't going to go out a buy a nice coat or sweatshirt just for this game...

    Re: Gold Rules??

You invest in 2 shirts for the 4 year stay... thats not as bad... Golden Rules was only around for my last 2 years but yeah... 2nd year I just wore the previous year's shirts.

First year they did it it was pretty sweet... though if I'm not mistaken the shirts were part of the ticket price so... the students kinda had it easy that year

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State,

kinda reaching here with a 'new shirt every week thing' aren't you? $9.99 for the Gold Rules T-shirt. You then wear it over a warm long-sleeved shirt. Wow - really cutting into groceries.

    Re: Gold Rules??

While I agree there should have been more fans wearing gold, I think the attire of the crowd can only add on 13 points, 17 points max, to the team's score. So it would still be a disappointing outing regardless.
