2nd String QB Quits, Season Lost

Seriously, we have to be the most delusional fan base in the history of football.

We mock our rivals as if they're out of touch, yet we can't help but thinking and debating what impact the 2nd string QB leaving had on our losses. The consensus seems to be a fairly significant impact.

We mock Iowa for always wanting the 2nd string QB, yet we blame ours for losses when he's no longer on the team.

    Get a grip, people.

Clone2thebone- you must have osteoporosis in your clone bones...every post out of you has been overly negative lately...seeing as Bates played a good portion of the first few games and was in contention to start up until the KU game he isn't your normal 2nd string QB, and we have looked pretty one-dimensional since his departure (for obvious reasons). That said, I don't think I've seen anybody completely blaming either of the last couple of losses on his departure...all I've seen are people saying it didn't help...

Well, ISU was running a 2-QB system. It's not out of the realm of possibility to believe that the departure of one of the QB's running that 2-QB system could have some effect on the team...

Bates has nothing to do with this mess we are in right now. We nearly won 2 games without him against UNLV and KU so I don't see how his presence is even relevant to the success or lack thereof the team has. Last time I checked you still have to put 11 guys out on the field.

Sorry...but it looks to me like the team is believing this more than the fans...

I can only draw one conclusion from the OP. Clone2thebone is an actuary.

ISU fans are the greatest in the world. All they ask for is hope and the belief that we have a chance to win every time we step on the field - Johnny Majors (paraphrased)

Ya gotta have the horses, man - Johnny Orr.

    Where is this happening?

I see people speculating on what effect PB leaving is having on the team. I agree - it SHOULD be minimal. But it's very possible it's significant, at least to some.

I also see the very reasonable and very accurate assumptions that PB would've got significant playing time the last two weeks - given our offensive performance.

I don't see people really wailing about the fact he's no longer here, nor that becasuse he's gone - the season is "lost".

If it is in fact lost - it's for a whole hell of a lot more than just his departure.

I'm just so ****** about the effort we seem to giving that I START TO FREAK OUT!!!!!!!!!!

The game before he quit, Bates didn't play. It's likely the experiment w/2 QB's had ended which is why he left.

And by the way, most 2nd string QB's are not good, so don't act like we're all handcuffed with what we can now do with AA.

I think its okay to at least ask the question.

You are naive if you think PB leaving has had zero effect on the program.

I'm glad there's no longer negative rep, btw.

I really thought we were gonna beat Baylor and Nebbie. Frustrated...

Unfortunately it is significant if AA cannot throw the ball more than 20 yards without pain since the Kansas game...if we cannot throw to spread people out, our goose may be cooked since we do not appear to be able to bust runs except for one play last game. I heard a rumor that he may have been slowed. Watching him in warmups will tell the opponent what to expect.
