    What did everyone think about...

Mcdermott talking about playing Jiri with Marsden/ Gray, Cory Johnson as our two big men. He also kind of hinted at that being the starting lineup in the future. Which will allow Wesley to move back to the #2 position which is his natural position. I heard this on cyclones.com.

I think that would make for my ideal starting lineup!!!

    1. Mike Taylor/ Corey McIntosh
    2. Wesley Johnson/ Dodie Dunson/ Brock Jacobsen
    3. Rahshon Clark/ Wesley Johnson
    4/5. Jessan Gray/ Ross Marsden/ Cory Johnson
    4/5. Jiri Hubalek/ Ross Marsden/ Cory Johnson

Re: What did everyone think about...

Personally, I don't think Wesley has the ball handling to be a #2. He seems MUCH more like a #3 to me. I also would much rather have McIntosh at the Point and Taylor at the #2 spot. I think McIntosh is more comfortable at the point position, and Taylor just lacks the court awareness to be a #1 which I'll bet will show up more when we start playin some tough teams.

Re: What did everyone think about...

Any starting lineup involving Hubalek (Rancik without a brain) and Jessan Gray (clueless) or Ross Marsden (stiff) won't get my blood flowing. Next year will be much more to my liking:

    PG-Diante Garrett/Corey McIntosh
    SG-Mike Taylor/Wesley Johnson/Lucca Steiger
    SF-Rahshon Clark/Wesley Johnson
    PF-Cory Johnson/Marsden
    C-Craig Brackins

This is obviously a very interchangable, athletic lineup. I wasn't able to find a spot for Wesley to start. At times, we may go small and Rahshon may start at PF. He'd give us a much more athletic starting five than if Corey Johnson was starting. In that case Wesley would start at SF, and CJohnson would spell them off the bench. I would feel comfortable matching up with a LOT of teams with that starting lineup.

Re: What did everyone think about...

Cory Johnson has a long way to go defensivly before he can start, and he'd probably be the first one to tell you that. Plus, Hubalek gives us a good weapon on the offensive end, although his defensive presence could be vastly improved. But I think McD will demand effort from these guys that wasn't there last year. We'll see what happens.

Edit: Oh, and to answer the original question, yes, I am jacked up about this possibility. I think that we could have some of the best size and speed to match up with in the conference. I mean we'd be looking at a starting lineup with a guy who is:

    6'3"
    6'7"
    6'6"
    6'10"
    6'11"

That's huge, especially for defending the 2 spot.

I thought he said Wesley would move to the wing (3).

Re: What did everyone think about...

Michael, where is Alex Thompson and Jiri in your rotation for next year? If Alex plays like he did in the Capital City league or better I can see him challenging for a starting spot next to Brackins possibly. I think Ross is going to have a very hard time finding minutes next year if he doesn't start showing some more. I think Brackins, Jiri, Thompson, and C. Johnson all could play before he gets into the game at the rate he is going right now.

I think if anyone is going to start next to Jiri in a big man lineup I think it should be Marsden then bring Gray and Johnson off the bench as a scoring punch off the bench. I think there are not enough basketballs to go around with Jiri, Gray, and Taylor all in the game at the same time. If you start Gray with Jiri then you have Ross and C. Johnson off the bench in the post. Not sure I like that combo. Clark and W. Johnson are the perfect SF types and both at times can slide into PF spot when we go with a smaller lineup. Lots of versatility and next season lots of depth to go with it too.

Re: What did everyone think about...

Lastuvka, you somehow forgot to put Thompson in next year's lineup. Jiri will also be back next year too. With those two in the lineup I would highly doubt that we will see C. Johnson starting next year. That is not to say that he can't start later in his career.

Good point! For some reason I thought Jiri was a senior. And Thompson, total brain-fart....forgot about him. Now I'm even more excited! Edited Starting 5:

    PG-McIntosh
    SG-Mike Taylor
    SF-Rahshon Clark
    PF-Thompson
    C-Brackins

Crap, that's exciting! Then we've got Garrett, Steiger, CJohnson, WJohnson, Marsden, Dunson, and Jiri coming off the bench. That's gonna be a damn tough, exciting, depth-laden team. (and yes, Brackins will start over Jiri from the very beginning)

Re: What did everyone think about...

Has anyone heard how Thompson looks in practice this year? I know he didn't play to his potential under Alford, but I'm hopeful a coach like McD can bring him up to the point where he's a quality big man in the Big 12.

Right now he is EASILY our best big. He's a very solid defender, has shooting range out to 3 land, very solid inside game, and certainly is the best rebounding big on the team. I've heard from my buddies that he dominates in practice.

I really don't like to judge the big guys until their junior or senior year. The ones who develop before that are the exception to the rule. They just need some coaching. Maybe next year I will start to get critical.

They are all cyclones, what is with the smart *** remarks?
I have never given negative rep points but this is close.
