    Basketball First Practice

I haven't seen this posted yet...

Basketball Season Begins For Men's Hoops - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - Iowa State Cyclones Sports

AMES, Iowa- The floor has been dry-mopped, the ball cart is on the court and the practice jerseys are still fresh. Basketball season has arrived. The Iowa State men’s basketball team officially kickstarted its 2008-09 season by conducting its first practice this afternoon.

    EDIT: I'll add gocyclones.com's article:

    http://www.gocyclones.com/news.php?ID=491

While Kansas spent Friday night raising its banner to the cheers of a packed field house and Davidson danced in the remaining limelight of last year's Elite Eight run, Iowa State's first day of basketball took a more serious tone.

I arrived there about 9:45am as they were playing the very last game. I was bummed because I thought they'd be playing longer. From what little I saw, Brackins looked very strong, Haluska stroked a couple from 3 point range, and Diante looked very comfortable running the show. But I didn't see enough to really get a sense of strengths and weaknesses, and I didn't get to see a lot of the players on the roster. Perhaps someone else did.

The one thing that really struck me, though, was how together they looked after the scrimmage ended. I've heard some folks talking about how the team chemistry has improved, and from what little I saw, I believe it. I know the expectations are very low for this season, but I'll bet anything that this team over achieves.

I can't wait for this season to come. I think we will surprise people with this team.

    Re: Basketball First Practice

There is a picture of Brackins standing by Diante on Cyclones.com and the dude looks much stronger and bigger than last season. He will be a force.

I mean physically strong. He had a couple of monster dunks and he looked very nasty physically, almost like he could impose his will whenever he wanted. But again, I only caught a very small part of the scrimmage, so I don't want to over hype.

Not to diminish what you saw, but I'll believe it when I see him go against Big 12 opponents.

It is heartening, though to hear what you say.

I'd settle for watching him trash Cyrus Tate and Jarryd Cole. Then I'd believe.
