    Why are people worried?

The only people that should be worried are fans of all the teams that we play. The guy just got here and some people think that he is already leaving for a bigger program. Let's wait and see where he takes us first. If a bigger program wants Chizik in a couple years, he must of done something impressive here at ISU. We will be a bigger, better program by the time he is done at Iowa State.

First off, you word it like people are worrying he'll leave NOW. Only a highly misinformed idiot would think that. That being said, you don't think people are justified in worrying that our coach will head for greener pastures after we start consistently winning (which will happen)? You don't think that's a legitimate thing to ponder?

He's a young up-and-comer with an impressive pedigree. Schools like Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, etc. are where many coaches strive to be and end a career. I'm not a self-loathing Cyclone, but I realize that we're not a sexy place to be and probably never will be. Demographics are stacked against us, amongst other things.

I'm excited for the future of ISU football. Criticizing people for wondering if Chizik will bolt for a bigger program is narrow-minded. The ultimate goal here and at any school is continued success, and to maintain it we need to retain the people that got us there. After they leave, there's the distinct possibility that we go right back down the shi*ter.

In fewer words, you're damn right people are gonna worry about this. It won't go away either, so get used to it.

    Re: Why are people worried?

Pollard had a good comment to this on Cotlar this morning...he basically said he'd be estatic if we were in the position that many top schools were wanting our head coach...cause obviously that means we've won lots o games! After that he'd said it's a matter of pony'ing up the dollars to keep him here.

    Re: Why are people worried?

I can't blame people for talking about it. It is a legitimate thought. I also believe that it's the only negative thing that anyone can come up with for the hire and since we are ISU, that's what people want to talk about it. Think about it. If he were just hired at Iowa, would we be hearing this same kind of talk right off the bat? I don't care what any hawk says, UofI is nowhere near as sexy as OU, Texas, Ohio State, USC, etc. The problem I have is that this is a lot of the conversation. I agree, it's a part of the hire, but, it seems to be the focus of the hire. Give us some credit for getting the guy. Hopefully he'll make us good enough to have to worry about it. Then, it will be up to us. Would he take a pay cut to move on? Anyways, my point is, is that this was such a good hire, such a quality job by JP that there is nothing anyone can find negative about it. So, they attack the fact he might leave some day. It's all they have, I'll take that.

    Re: Why are people worried?

I think we have a few things going for us.
    1. He will want to put his name on this program. Sometimes people don't leave something they have created.
    2. Pollard for some reason is able to spend a lot of money. That can also keep a coach.
    3. He has young kids and has moved a lot recently. That is really hard on a family. Looked like his kids where 6ish to 12lish?
That means the older ones have moved a few times recently.
I know that isn't the only reason, but he sounds like a family guy and uprooting your family every 2-3 years would not be healthy.

2005-Present Co-Defensive Coordinator, Assistant Head Coach & Linebacker Coach Texas
2002-2004 Defensive Coordinator & Secondary Coach Auburn
1998-2001 Defensive Coordinator & Secondary Coach UCF
1996-1997 Defensive Coordinator Stephen F. Austin

    4. He has a lot of work to do. Before we start booking our BCS trips we should give the guy 3 years to put something together. Remember we play in a league with Southern teams so we can't go 6-6 and go to the Alamo bowl.

I think this is an excellent point. Based on what I've heard from and heard about Chizik, if Ames provides the kind of environment that he and his wife are looking for to raise their family in, that might go along way in him staying long term at ISU.

    Re: Why are people worried?

Taken from the Cedar Rapids Gazette:

He also isn’t concerned that Chizik could be using Iowa State as a stepping-stone job.

‘‘Wouldn’t that be a great problem to have?’’ Pollard said. ‘‘I hope we do have that kind of success, where our coaches do attract attention.’’

    Re: Why are people worried?

This is what people are worried about the day after one of the most significant hires in ISU history? Please Clones, let's give ourselve some credit. This inferiority complex should no longer be tolerated. This is the kind of crap our opponents will be saying on the recruiting trail and Keelor will be writing after every ISU win and championship...NOT the kind of stuff we should be saying. This kind of discussion does not have any value in a public forum.

IF and when that day comes, there will be plenty of great days in between. Besides, every coach is temporary.

    Re: Why are people worried?

I'm not too worried about him leaving for a bigger program.....I really feel that Mac left the program much better than he found it, and if Chizik does the same, we will be in that much better shape to find another one, or make a play to keep him. There are always going to be the glass half empty crowd. Just ignore them if possible.

I like your style Cyclonepride. Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere. I'm going to try to do a better job of supporting JP. I actually just joined the NCC earlier today.

I did after the G-Mac hire. We need more to do this.

    Re: Why are people worried?

Who do these people want to hire then - a high school coach from Humboldt? Coachers and staffs are constantly in motion. Clones had the dean of coaches in Big 12. May never happen again in our lifetime. That is life.

We are paying Gene what McC would get plus more for staff. He has performance bonuses from $6.5M up to $10M for six years. This is $1.1M basic plus $0.6M bonus plus staff of $1.5M basic and their $500k bonus for maximum of $3.7M.

Kirk Ferentz gets $2.7M plus bonuses go up to $3.5M. Kirk will be worth the cost of our whole staff. Sounds like theirn big star is eating the lunch of the little staff in Iowa City. Kirk might be a Top Five college coach. He actually needs a bowl every New Years Day because that is the point where Hawks break even with Kirk. Little bowls klike Alamo may be losers for a $3.0M coach. Only 15 teams are eligible for bowls at 6-6 record. Every 7-5 team in top division musty be awarded a bowl spot before Iowa gets their bowl. Hoiw could Hawks get accepted so early by Alamo? There is a little known NCAA rule.

Right now Kansas and that other famous Okie State 6-6 Big 12 team are in a tossup for the last spot in the Worst Big 12 Bowl. One will be staying home unless a bowl is missing a decent school.

Ohio U is going to a 7 Jan 07 bowl (7Jan7). Frank Solich is 9-3 and playing CMU and Kelley for conference championship on Thursday night. His team with same players from 3 years had been 6-6 last year. Not bad, Frank. Back to 9 or more wins a year.

CFH HMagic bball season next year.
Let my Fred's Four Horsemen ride: Georges, Hogue, Nader, and McKay.
