    Buy American. I Am.

This is an excellent editorial by Warren Buffett in today's NY Times. It is a must read for everyone who has a 401K to those we are more active investors! http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/17/opinion/17buffett.html?_r=1&ref=opinion&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin

I pulled a couple of my favortie quotes:

A simple rule dictates my buying: Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful. And most certainly, fear is now widespread, gripping even seasoned investors
Today people who hold cash equivalents feel comfortable. They shouldn’t. They have opted for a terrible long-term asset, one that pays virtually nothing and is certain to depreciate in value. Indeed, the policies that government will follow in its efforts to alleviate the current crisis will probably prove inflationary and therefore accelerate declines in the real value of cash accounts.

    Re: Buy American. I Am.

How am I supposed to be able to afford to buy American, if an American made product is an option?

I don't have the money to buy stocks, but I do have money to buy consumer goods. So can Warren show me anything that is American made anymore?

My Dodge is made of parts from Germany and Mexico and assembled somewhere else, maybe even the US.

I walk up and down the aisles of WalMart and see nothing but products from China.

I just bought my wife a new Dell PC and on the box it says made in Malaysia.

So show me what I can do to buy American made, besides Burger King, and I'll be glad to help.

Dude...you might want to read the editorial. He's talking about stocks, not products.

Dude...you should read his post. He specifically said he can't afford investments.

He did say that, but his post was kind of like the equivalent of someone saying that Wendy's has the best hamburgers of all fast food restaurants and he responds with..."I don't even like tacos"

Oh I'm sorry I forgot the rule that states you can never stray off the OP topic.

    BTW I do like tacos.

    Re: Buy American. I Am.

Back to the topic; I'm really just a novice when it comes to investing, but I am in my mid-30's and want to make sure my future is secure. When the dollar was falling in value, I bought some stock in a few "emerging market funds". These have proven to be successfull, so I intend on keeping them for a while mainly on the notion that we have an election in less than a month and depending on the outcome, I see these developing markets continuing to gain strength and the american dollar to continue to bounce around.

I like the article and agree that these time-tested american companies will steadily gain value.

    Thanks for the link.
