I am glad that Iowa State decided to hire a coach whose specialty is defense. If you have a good defense, you will have a chance to win every game.

How good has Chizik been as a defensive coordinator? Over the last seven years his teams have allowed an average of 16.89 pts/game. His best defense was in 2004 with Auburn allowing 11.31 points, the best in the country. His worst defense was with Central Florida in 2001 allowing 20.09 points which was 32nd in the country.

Iowa State's best defense during this stretch was in 2005 when they allowed 19.17 points, which was 20th in the country. Over the seven year span the Cyclones allowed an average of 26.26 pts/game. Which is almost 10 more pts/game then the Chizik led defenses at Texas, Auburn and Central Florida.

I have put together a Gene Chizik File on the blog that inlcudes personal info on Gene, a breakdown of his last 7 defenses, links to video, links to stories and some of his most popular quotes.
