Ditto that. I work in IC and aside from the "we still have Ferentz" yahoos, I haven't heard much either.

    The calm before the storm....Cyclone.

Don't think they haven't noticed everything that's gone down in the past several months! I think they all wanted McDermott, and now they're a little nervous with Chizek coming to town.

Hawks are used to being the No. 1 show in the state, they're nervous about the storm brewing in Ames.......

My Hawkeye friends have been surprisingly very cool about the new hire...congratulating ISU on the find. However, most have likened Chizik to Ferentz. Weird.

only one comment from a hawk fan so far here. "the guy must be kind of greedy to get that kind of contract without proving anything." Typical Suckeye arrogance...

    Re: Shmuckeye fans are quiet.....

I reside in Iowa City. Most of the guys around here are so biased towards the Hawkeyes that they simply aren't capable of intelligent conversation.

There are a couple I've come across that can see beyond their bias, and they both agreed that it was a huge hire and they expressed nervousness. They likened Chizik to a young Stoops getting a chance at OK.

So remember, next time you talk to an idiot Hawkeye fan that's in denial of the relevance of this hire, they're REALLY a little bit scared inside.

Ignore them. We'll prove it on the field/court.

I also live in IC and find that most of the mature Hawk fans are decent sorts; you must be hanging out with the college kids! Everybody I've spoken with thinks it's a great hire for ISU.

I've done weekly Cyclone Football updates on a local AM radio station all year and they called me this morning for my opinion on the hiring. The only "negative" comment the pro-hawk DJ's made was on the topic of GC's longevity at ISU; they opined it's a "stepping stone" job for him. They all think KF will retire from EIU because it's such a great job. It'd be funnier than heck if Cowher did retire after this season and KF finally took an NFL head coaching job, returning to his native Pittsburgh! I don't think it'll happen, but it'd serve the ungrateful hawk fans right; given what he's done for them, they certainly complain too much!

    Re: Shmuckeye fans are quiet.....

There really shouldn't be anything to be nervous about. If you're basing your whole season on the Iowa-ISU game....then nothing has really changed.

I hope ISU can actually come through and win a title, and play in a championship game. It'd be great for the state of Iowa to have two very good football programs.

As for recruiting, two different areas. Seems like KF goes East/South East, while ISU needs to hit the Texas and Southern parts. I think KF needs to go there too, but again it's Big 10 country vs Big 12.

I am a Shmuckeye fan, but I do root for ISU. I wasn't happy with the KF, and he has provided some success (his biggest test is next year). Let's wait and see how the next 2-3 seasons turn out for Chizik.

Iowa fans have no clue. They accept the Alamo Bowl bid and think that it is for the 3rd best team in the Big 10. Not only is it not that high, but they also won't believe that the Champs Sports is a better (higher) bowl this year than the Alamo.

On the coaching front, I haven't heard a word, I think they are all scared of what is brewing over in Ames...

    Re: Shmuckeye fans are quiet.....

A hawk fan messages me this morning at work thru instant messenger, I had to be very polite since its work environment. The messaging goes like this:

WD [10:56 AM]: Well yeah, Hopefully he can turn it around for you guys
SA [10:59 AM]: people are just puzzled by this hire
SA [10:59 AM]: even the press didnt know how to react
SA [10:59 AM]: we are paying him about the same as we paid dmac
SA [11:00 AM]: 6.75 mil over 6 years, thats just crazy
WD [11:01 AM]: Yeah, But i think he felt it was a good time in his life to get a head coaching job and now hopefully build his way up
SA [11:07 AM]: watch out man, when we let go 3 very stable coaches to hire 3 top notch coaches in 9 months, i dont honestly think people should be even looking at cyhawk games any more.. there's just more added pressure on ISU to win big 12 titles.. i knew this would come some day but didnt realize all this would start to happen with hiring the right AD
WD [11:08 AM] well change can be good

Then, he just gets quiet. We normally talk football and basketball in person, now he messages me over this, its just so entertaining to watch their reaction.

You're right about that...damn college kids lol....at any rate, it's obviously an amazing hire.

I unfortunately also prescribe to the theory that ISU's a stepping stone. In this day and age, it's extremely rare for loyalty to overrule personal gain. It's a world where people aren't content until their goals are met, whether more money or an NFL job, whatever. I just don't see ISU being the ultimate goal for Chizik.

I believe that if we ever reach a BCS bowl game, he'll be gone the next year.
