Jamie Pollard - Gotta love the guy and Amen!!!`

On Cotlar right now, talking about the possibility of Coach Chizik having some success and then moving on ... (paraphrasing)

"It's not the season ticket holders, but the people buying one ticket - coming to one game - GET INVOLVED! Buy season tickets!"

    and

"I hope we're in that position. I don't want a coach who's STUCK here, but one who wants to be here".

All hail to Dr Geoffroy and committe for landing this guy. We're in good hands folks.

And it amazed me this morning the number of people who called in and either yea'd or nay'd the coaching hire, but then when asked if they're season ticket holders said they weren't.

Pony up! My check just got little bigger (not big, but bigger)

I think Jamie's words about not having a guy that is "stuck" here ended with "and we wil have to fight like hell to keep him here" implying that if indeed Chizik does some great things ISU is not scared to have to pony up to keep him if someone comes offering bigger and better things.

I have now decided that I will henceforth refer to JP as "King Pollard", and nothing is true until it has been decreed by him publicly.

    I love me some JP.

The few ISU fans I've talked to already today have said they will consider season tickets next year...and if they already have them, will increase their donation!

I've made this point before. If Iowa can afford to pay $3M to retain their coach, it can happen at ISU as well. The fans of this state have proven they will support a successful athletic program.

The ISU fan base is just waiting to be awakened. GC strikes me as the type of coach than can put together a winning program.

Pollard is a superstar. I'm more worried about him jumping ship in three years than I am about any of the coaches he's hired. I am convinced that with any other AD at the helm, ISU sports would be looking far less rosy.

Pollard seems to be a genius at this point. He has made what appear to be 3 great hires in a short period of time. Boy am I glad he is on our side!! I loved it when I got home from work yesterday and turned on ESPN News and in the "Breaking News" box it had Iowa State's hiring of Chizik. Pollard has a way of actually making the nation care who we hire when otherwise it would be second page stuff.

Hiring JP was like hiring an amazing marketing firm for a small business, he will make ISU a well known name and I can't wait.

Re: Jamie Pollard - Gotta love the guy and Amen!!!`

Why do people keep thinking top coaches and Pollard will jump ship in a few years. It seems that I occassionally hear that from fellow Clones. We have to get over the inferiority complex. How often have coaches really jumped ship on us????

Football: Mac was with us 12 years prior to being let go (and he wanted to stay). For years prior to that, football coaches were primarily let go... versus jumping ship. I may be wrong, but I think you have to go back to Donnie Duncan to find someone that left us by their own decision. Now, we can all argure that this does not bode well for our hires, or committment to football, but that is about it.

Basketball: Johnnie Orr was with us for many years, until he retired. Floyd jumped to the pros (OK agree on that). Larry was a life time coach if he did not blow up and cause us to have to let him go. Morgan... well we all know he was let go. McD will be here a long, long time.

Athletic Director: Gene, left for greener pastures. Van De Velde was AD for several years before he was let go. Jamie has just built a fantastic future for himself... why on earth would he leave prior to reaping the rewards?

So... let's all stop throwing out the "I'm worried he will jump ship" talk. History does not support that. ISU is a great school and Ames is a fantastic place to live and raise a family. Yes, if you bring in a "city boy" that lives for the lights and glitz, they eventually may move on. That is OK. That happens to all teams... but to continually discuss when a coach or AD will leave us lacks confidence and promotes a "step child" mentality, that can be self fulfilling.

    Go Clones!!!

I don't think anyone was trying to say that Pollard is going to leave - I think it was more a testament to how crucial he is to the athletic program right now, and how willing we are to do anything to keep him.

And what a great post - hopefully this "coaching graveyard" will be the springboard for several careers!

Re: Jamie Pollard - Gotta love the guy and Amen!!!`

I have to say that so far I am very impressed with what JP has done in a short amount of time. Did Van De Velde accomplish as much in his entire time here as Pollard has in the past few months?

Time will tell if Pollard will indeed place ISU athletics on the national stage. So far, I have been pleased with what I have seen from the basketball and wrestling teams. I also like the looks of the football hire. The facilities plan is ambitious, but Pollard has managed to bump up ticket sales so far.

If JP come anywhere close to reaching the goals he has set, the transformation of this program will be nothing short of amazing, and we should be willing to pay any price to keep him. I have never been more excited about Cyclone athletics in my life, and I have a good feeling that the next several years are gonna be a good time to be a Cyclone.

Well I want us to have a guy like Ferentz. why not have a successful coach that you have to pay big bucks to keep around. You dont want to keep the guy from doing what he wants, but you definitely want to do whats best for the school.

I said ever since the end of the Nebraska game that we would be hiring a assistant coach/coordinator after the end of the season, from Texas. WHAT HAS TWO THUMBS, AND WAS RIGHT ABOUT THE HIRE?? This Guy!!

How about a small round of applause for President Geoffrey. He was instrumental in getting JP here and is now an instrumental part of bringing high quality coaches to the Ames area. Geoffrey got Pollard here and is being highly receptive to letting Jamie open up and let the horses run.

It all begins at the top, a few cheers for Geoffrey.
