    Question Useless Information

The perfect storm of (a) a very serious addiction to CF, and (b) agreeing to watch "The Bachelor" finale with my wife (as long as I can play on my laptop ) has produced the following... um... stuff.

With several "why would Chizik go to Ames?" comments floating around on various boards, etc., and with an inner desire to convince anyone I meet that Iowa State CAN be a successful FB program, I got curious about how the population of Ames ranked against other cities with D-1 FB programs.

I used a website (http://www.census.gov/popest/cities/SUB-EST2005-4.html) to look up the 2005 Census population numbers for cities that I thought, off the top of my head, (a) host reasonably successful FB programs, and/or (b) would be similar in population to Ames.

    Here is what I found:

    School City State Population
    ---------------- --------------- --------------- ---------------
    Nebraska Lincoln Nebraska 239213
    Texas Tech Lubbock Texas 209737
    Arkansas Little Rock Arkansas 184564
    Florida State Tallahassee Florida 158500
    Oregon Eugene Oregon 144515
South Carolina Columbia South Carolina 117088
    BYU Provo Utah 113459
    Florida Gainesville Florida 108184
Texas A&M College Station Texas 72388
    Illinois Champaign Illinois 71568
    Indiana Bloomington Indiana 69017
    Iowa Iowa City Iowa 62887
    Iowa State Ames Iowa 52263
    Oregon State Corvallis Oregon 49553
Michigan State East Lansing Michigan 46419
    Virginia Tech Blacksburg Virginia 39130
    Purdue West Lafayette Indiana 28599
West Virginia Morgantown West Virginia 28292
    Washington State Pullman Washington 25262
    Clemson Clemson South Carolina 12364

Of course, this does not take in to account surrounding cities, or 1000 other factors that would be required for this to be used for anything even close to scientific. I was just curious what I would find.

In the true spirit of this being as non-scientific as possible, I will offer no hypothesis and no conclusion.

    Enjoy!

    Re: Useless Information

the Arkansas program is based out of fayetteville, they play only a couple games in little rock each year. The population of Fayeteville is about the same size as Iowa City, around 60,000.
