How do we stop Lucky and Ganz?

I watched most of the Texas Tech game this past weekend and Marlon Lucky and Joey Ganz basically had their way with the Tech defense. How are we going to stop Nebraska's offense?

Ganz was 36-44 for 349 yards and 2 TDs
Lucky had 16 rushes for 66 yards (4.1 ypc) and 7 catches for 80 yards (11.4 ypc).
Helu also had 10 carries for 47 yards (4.7 ypc).

We are coming off a half where Kansas did not put the ball and scored 5 TDs in the second half. And then a full game where we gave up 38 points and a nearly perfect passing performance by Baylor.

The last 3 games we have given up 34, 35, and 38 points. We can score points...especially at home...but it is going to take a monumental effort or a lot of turnovers to stop Nebraska's offense this Saturday. It will take a complete game to win on Saturday.

I don't want to be a downer, but I'm just looking at the stats. I also don't want to see another embarrassing meltdown if we lose on Saturday.

Re: How do we stop Lucky and Ganz?

Well, we can do our best to slow them down, but I think you have to expect that Nebraska will score points. Our defense has looked sharp at times (see first half against Kansas, second half periodically against UNLV), but if you judge their whole body of work I suspect that we'll give up some running room and some big completions.

Our offense needs to be on point, and we'll need to have some turnovers. We had four takeaways against KU, but none against Baylor. And of the four against KU, we got only 6 points (2 FGs). We need turnovers and TDs. Hopefully we can keep up.

Getting a pass rush with 4 guys would be a nice start. Besides that our offense needs to get at least 4 TD's to give us a chance.

we could take them out before the game even starts, nancy kerrigan style. oh wait i get confused, that is what nebraska fans were saying the should've done to chase daniel 2 weeks ago. in fact, i think the exact quote i heard late in the 1st quarter was "i wish i wouldve known what hotel they were staying at last night in lincoln. he wouldve never made it to the stadium today." we are the GOOD sports and GREAT fans in this matchup.

FYI, the visiting teams stay at the Marriot on Jordan Creek Parkway in WDM.

Re: How do we stop Lucky and Ganz?

The good news is that the Tampa 2 defense was designed to stop the west coast offense.

The bad news is that we don't have the personnel yet to properly run the Tampa 2.

Which should equal a pretty good pillow fight.

Re: How do we stop Lucky and Ganz?

i think cloneu nailed it with the pass rush. our line needs to be better than their line. just for one days boys, bring your hard hats and lunch pails and do work. if only once, make it this saturday, please.

i think id take ARob over Lucky now. Ganz is a good leader but i expect AA to be better when he is a senior. since hes not a senior i call this a push or slight edge to ganz. but if we win the battles in the trenches, we will win the war.

Re: How do we stop Lucky and Ganz?

We have gotten a decent pass rush the last two games with the front 4. Kansas adjusted and went to very quick passes and throwing to the RB more and Baylor just killed us with the screen game.

Re: How do we stop Lucky and Ganz?

We need to cover Nate Swift (#87). He is similar to #10 (forgot his name already) for Kansas but he looks faster on the field. Ganz throws the ball to him a bunch. Easiest way to stop their offense is to have them on the bench.

Lucky is a good back. I think we will have a little trouble with him. Not a fan of gantz. He kind of reminds me of Tate. Smack him early and you can get in his head.

put 8 or 9 in the box. Nebraska's run game has been inconsistent this year.

Can we find a way to sneak this guy onto the defense?
