    LB Mike Marry to visit

I don't want to give up anything confidential but it's on the front page of cyclonereport for everyone to see.

For those that don't know, he is a STUD LB from Largo, FL. Really good friends with Leonard Johnson. Has offers from everywhere. Didn't think we had a chance with him but he is going to be here (Don't know if I can say when?).

This could be an even better recruiting class than last year with more immediate impact players if we sign Marry, Darius Reynolds, Troy Butler and James Carpenter.

Hopefully he enjoys his visit, and Leonard is a great salesman. This is why we need to continue to support the team even though we get spanked by baylor.

Hopefully he knows early playing time is a distinct possibility next season.

Re: LB Mike Marry to visit

You will distinctly see in every article that quotes a recruit talking about ISU, they all mention that what they like about ISU is the ability to play early. The days of waiting till you are a Jr or Sr are gone and rightfully so if you are the best player. The ability to play early is the only way you are going to start getting highly touted recruits to come to non-traditional powerhouse football schools. To them, playing is the most important thing and Chizik is offering more of an opportunity than most are.

The really cool thing to me, with all of the shrimp linebackers I've seen visiting, is that Marry has size to go with his athletitism. We need both.

(Don't know if I can say when?).
Well, we all know it's nebby, A&M or Missouri, so it really doesn't matter.

This could be an even better recruiting class than last year with more immediate impact players if we sign Marry, Darius Reynolds, Troy Butler and James Carpenter.
Oh, I can think of several more "immediate impact players" waiting in the wings, if we can go on a little winning streak--Scott Haughton's former teammates among them.

Probably because Chizik is signing much better players than Mac ever did. After all, he had his share of players who played right away (or as a soph), just more of them were "projects". Reggie Hayward, Eliis Hobbs, Deandre Jackson, and Chris Singleton (along with the linebacker from Houston that I can't remember) are among players who all played as frosh, and started as sophs.

Of course, Chizik is also starting with a better baseline across the board than Mac had when he stepped in for Jim Walden. From facilities to recent bowl history to at least a framework of D-I players on the team to assistant's payscale, all are better than what Mac had to work with.

    Yeah, no kidding.

    6'3", 205lbs and runs a 4.6

That's the kind of athlete we need on the field.

Would like to agree, but so far the Caoach Chiziks classes have not been ranked much better than what we were doing before.

I agree Coach Chizik has better tools to work with.

Playing earlier has always been a sales point for this program.

Perhaps, but we've got some former players in the NFL right now that are pretty good.

I want to believe what you're saying. Just not seeing proof of it yet.

Of course you aren't seeing the proof yet, most of the guys are redshiriting. Fact is that there are true freshmen taking playing time from Mac recruits that have been here 2-3-4 years...

You're wasting your time if you're going by "rankings".

No doubt Chizik is better at evaluating talent than Mac. He has been around and coached some of the best talent in college football at Auburn and Texas. He knows what kind of athlete it takes to win. I would trust Gene bringing in a bunch of 2 star recruits from Texas and Florida as oppose to Mac bringing in 4 star recruits from NE and Utah.

Re: LB Mike Marry to visit

Mac struck a gold nugget once in awhile in his 10+ years (Hobbs, Wallace) bit the majority were slow, un-athletic.

heck...Mac's offensive lines looked horribly under-sized against other big-12 schools.

Part of the reason the rankings are so low appears to be that Chizik's staff is doing an excellent job of identifying talent. And there are guys flying under the radar, because they weren't expected to qualify. Or are from Canada, or other underrecruited areas (like Chizik's hometown backyard).

Some of the best athletes I've seen over the past thirty years included Keith Sims, Marcus Robertson, and Ellis Hobbs. Note that those three were scattered over thirty years.

In this class we have Scott Haughton, Leonard Johnson and Ter'ran Benton (among others). In the same class. Now, Haughton might not be better than Sims, but it's close--and I have a feeling Johnson will be better than Hobbs, if he stays healthy, and Benton roughly equal to Robertson. Sure, there are other parallels, but that tells me that the talent Chizik is bringing in is far less diffuse than it has been in a very long time--perhaps back to when Majors was bringing in the likes of Matt Blair, Ike Harris and etc.

Also add the likes of Jerome Tiller, Sed Johnson, Darius Darks, and if he passes his test, Chase Harper. And the list could keep on going.

I just hope this class matches it--and at the moment, I have my worries.

Ah! Positive news. That's what we need. It is a bummer to come on here and hear the negative, although we all need to vent sometimes.
