    Assistant Coaches???

Well, the wait is finally over and I think it's safe to say the majority of Cyclone nation is happy about the hiring of Gene Chizik. I for one am estatic and can't wait to see what the future brings. My question to you all is who do you think Chizik will bring in as his assistant coaches? Just speculation, but do you suppose Brian Kelley would at all be interested in becoming our OC? Let's get some feedback as to who we think some possible candidates are to fill our coaching staff....

Welcome to the Cyclone State coach Chizik!

    Re: Assistant Coaches???

I can't picture Kelly being OC. I can't picture being in the MAC championship game one year to being someone's assistant the next. He would be AWESOME, but I have to think that would be a big letdown. What do you guys think?

I thought I read somewhere Kelly signed an extension, not that I think he would even entertain being an asst. He'll wait for his shot.

    Re: Assistant Coaches???

If my sources are correct ISU is offering $1.5 million in contracts for Chizik's staff plus incentives. I think we could probably land a pretty solid coaching staff with that type of money available. I'm really not so sure as to whom he may be interested in looking at. I was one that definitely was not high on Norvell as a head coach, but would he be a good fit under Chizik at Iowa State?

I'm extremely giddy right now guys. I'm in utter shock that we landed such a big name. I really think this spells out great things to come for Cyclone football.

    Re: Assistant Coaches???

My feeling is this: with such a great hire for the Head Coach, I'm sure his selections for assistants will be just as good. Listening to his acceptance speech, I don't have any other way to think than 'Go for it Gene'.

Yeah, since it was published in the articles about the hire, your "sources" are correct.

If your source is cyclones.com it is correct. If you go on you can see that Chizik signed a 6 year contract worth $6.75 million and got $1.5 million in contracts for his staff plus incentives.

    Re: Assistant Coaches???

Angie you're right, I would think Kelly would be taking a step backwards by taking an OC position at Iowa State. That being said, I will not rule it out. Stranger things have happened, such as GC taking the job at Iowa State. I honestly thought he could get a job anywhere he desired and Iowa State wouldn't be enough of a draw for him, so if we can land a guy like him I will not rule out any potential candidates, no matter how far fetched.

Cymon, good point about the cover 2. Seems Chizik likes to run that set.

    Re: Assistant Coaches???

We have 1.5 million to spend on these guys, I think we will get damn good OC DC's with good credentials, Loney doesn't quite fit what I think we will get, and Norvell has never called plays, so he wouldn't be a good coordinator hire, they will some bigger names I would assume!
