    Re: Bowden Fired at Clemson

Wow...I mean not a horrible shock that they would get rid of him, but surprising this early in the season.

Figured this was coming. How much talent can one team have and not produce??? Holy smokes, their backfield alone with Davis, Spiller, and Harper were ranked #1 in every pre-season magazine. He had underachieved in previous years as well.

But what are they achieving by firing him now? Unless there is a good coach not currently working, they can't even make contact with someone until the season is close to being over.

    Re: Bowden Fired at Clemson

Better to fire him now and still try to salvage a recruiting class out of it rather than wait until after a bowl (possibly) and do it in January with signing day around the corner. Clemson's AD said they wanted a New Year's Day Bowl or better and it was clear they weren't going to achieve it so they let him go.

Why would they fire him? Don't they know who his Daddy is?

I am surprised they did not let him go last year. For the dreamers on this board, you better perform in less than 5 years and then not let the other schools pass you up. Schools pay millions and they expect performance every year. The good old chummy coach days are gone. It is business.

    Re: Bowden Fired at Clemson

That is pretty bad because what on earth do they think they are going to be able to accomplish this season by doing this? That has to demoralize the players.

Presumably bowden has been out recruiting and would still have another month or two in the season to continue recruiting.

But if the die had already been cast, they were probably just as well off cutting him loose.

Somebody forgot to tell Gary Barta that.

Bring in his daddy or brother to fix the mess. The ACC has been pathetic this year, so if you are bad in this league, you are bad.

I'm not up to speed on my Clemson football, but were they any good before he took over?

    Re: Bowden Fired at Clemson

I am surprised he lasted this long. We visited Clemson this summer and they were expecting big things (top 10 finish, BCS bowl, etc.). Clemson is serious about their FB and they have a rich tradition...they won the National Championship in the early 80s under Danny Ford.

By the way, Bowden was a great coach when his OC was a guy named Rich Rodriguez...they went undefeated at Tulane...which is an incredibly tough thing to do.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
