I have no idea what that would mean, but it sure would be interesting.

Great, now they will offer six cars that are identical, but one will be Chevy, one Buick, one Pontiac, one Subaru, one Chrysler and one Dodge

Subaru shares no platforms, bodies, or styles with any other GM platform with the exception of the Saab 9-2x, which was essentially just a fancy Imprezza.

GM divested itself of Subaru a while back at any rate.

Re: GM And Chrysler in Merger talks

It seems to me that GM might be better off separating into three or four smaller entities than adding another losing one.

If they were smart Chrysler would spin off AMC.

Re: GM And Chrysler in Merger talks

These companies should fail. They had to take low interest loans from the government 25 years ago to survive and look at what happened, they are at it again. Citi was basically insolvent in the early 90's.

A form of Darwinism would say these companies should all be gone. These companies have survived and lived to make more mistakes which we are obviously seeing again today. Unfortunately some companies are being bailed out again. Take note of all the companies that are being bailed, we will see them in deep trouble again in our lifetimes.

And the government made out quite well on that deal...

So what does Chrysler add that's better than what Chevy already has? Maybe the minivan?

It still would be if they put a real hemi in it (Mopar performance still makes them) and not what they are currently marketing as a "Hemi", which is largely a replacement for the LA series engines (318, 360) as opposed to something at the top end of the performance liist (400, 440, Hemi).

Nothing at all wrong with the LS series engines, but there is something just very right about the 426 Hemi. A Corvette is probably not the right car to put a 426 in, though. It's a very heavy engine (at least the non-aluminium block ones), and would destroy the handling of a car that is already slightly suspect in that regard.

A larger portfolio of crappy cars?

Chrysler got divorced from Daimler, and they're already looking for a new bride.....
