    *Sigh* Chizik Recruiting

Ok, I'm already tired of hearing that Chizik can't/won't bring top Texas talent to ISU.

While that may be true...he doesn't NEED to bring top talent to Iowa State. We aren't going to start contending for national championships in the near future. Look what Mac did with "average" talent...he came close to winning 2 North titles...and he isn't a great gameday coach.

Imagine what Chizik could do with "better than average talent" and good coaching skills! He doesn't need 10 5-star recruits per class to be considered successful here. Hell, we have never had ONE 5-star recruit.

Don't worry. McDermott couldn't recruit either.

With this mans ties to Florida and Texas there is plenty of hope. What they call average HS football down here in Texas could lite up many college programs with just a few key players.

Can't complain about some of the Texas talent we were able to get under Mac and he had to build that recruiting pipeline. Chizik comes in with an already established relationship in that area on tip of what Mac already had going on.

    Re: *Sigh* Chizik Recruiting

mack brown gets the top echelon of recruits for signing in feb 07 by the 30th of may 2006. the baylor coach his done a remarkable job of recruiting this year in texas. he has picked up so many high quality recruits this year.you have a lot of recruiting pressure in texas with fraudphony at texas a and m,patterson at tcu, bennet at smu and price at utep and the coach at houston and the lawyer coach at shootem out texas tech.
then you have the weasels from oklahoma, okiestate, arkansas ,and at lsu
that get their share of recruits from texas. we need to get back to recruiting illinois, wisconsin.indiana, and ohio where majors and earl bruce were successful. if the new coach was a wizard at recruiting, he should have earl bruce on a stipend to ride with a young stud recruiter in the illinois, indiana, ohio area.maybe an old dog like bruce cpould train a young
dog a few old tricks of the recruiting game.

    Re: *Sigh* Chizik Recruiting

If ISU didn't get Chizik, who was going to be a better recruiter than him??? Of all the candidates, I can't think of one that would be a better recruiter than Chizik. This guy once won 28 consecutive games as a part of the undefeated Auburn and Texas teams. Harbaugh may have been the closest to being able to recruit at a high level but even then he has never handed out a scholarship before. If Greg McDermott can get the highest ranked recruit ever in Iowa State basketball history in his first year, I'm sure Chizik can nab a couple 4 or 5 stars.

Anyone know how involved Chizik was in recruiting for the defenses at Auburn and Texas? Just curious.

    Re: *Sigh* Chizik Recruiting

I hate to be a downer, but how many connections for recruiting kids to you get with only being with a program for a couple years. I guess my concern would be did he stay long enough, or make a big enough impact to get the warm and fuzzy feeling that he has ties to these states.

I am just trying to look at it a different way and see what you all think.
