    What the offense is lacking.....

One thing we need is a 240-260 lb fullback who can move the line of scrimmage when there is no hole. Look how successful Ryan Koch was with the absence of an offensive line. They knew he was coming and still couldn't stop him. A run threat at Fullback would be one more thing for defenses to account for.

Would also like to see the Tight Ends get a little more involved in the passing game.

Otherwise, for the most part, the pass blocking has been great. IMO, what we lacked in the 3rd Qtr against KU was that we kept Austin in the pocket too much instead of rolling him out. It made things easy for the defense as they were covering the interior much better even in the second quarter.

This is what I've been saying ever since the Oklahoma game last year.

We would have won that game with a FB on the roster.

I think Jeremiah Schwartz might help out in that role starting next year......hopefully.

I would just rather see us spread the field if we are going to run in short yardage. We don't have the line that can match up 7 on 8...

Re: What the offense is lacking.....

IMO, the single most important thing we are lacking on Offense is the ability to convert 3rd-and-1 on a consistent basis.

Whatever the solution is: better run blocking, a strong FB, or whatever; we need it.

If we can become consistent in that area, it will allow us to open up the playbook a bit (think "taking a shot downfield on 2nd-and-1").

I really think we need to have a direct-snap play in the books. But then having Bates in the backfield is basically the same thing. We just need to find a way to get him on the field.

Line them up next to each other (Arnaud and Bates) and snap the ball to one or the other. Make the defense guess who is going to get the ball and try to make them react to it.

The problem with this is that neither of them are pass blockers, and if the defense brings a blitzer, we're toast.

Re: What the offense is lacking.....

Why can't we put Arnaud and Bates on the field at the same time....option passes and throwbacks would be huge in loosening the grip of opposing defenses. We need these types of plays to put us over the top...even just one a game would keep the defense guessing.

#4. Fullback - tire of seeing 3rd and 1 and not getting it.
#5. Bo Williams He could be something else with a line and passing attack

I think we will be scary good at passing next year IF we can give Arnaud some time. Bates needs to be a Receiver with the other young guys.

Have we ever done a run/pass option on third and short? I hate putting all your eggs in one basket in that situation...

We have one of those fullbacks. His name is Taylor Mansfield and he is a bruiser. I can't figure out why they haven't let him touch the ball.

We tried a halfback option pass on Saturday. Don't think it was a third and short, but KU sniffed it out. Just glad the RB at the time had the smarts to throw that ball out of bounds instead of taking the loss or throwing it into the middle of the field.
