    Steve Fossett hit a mountain

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/03/us...tt.html?ref=us

Apparently, Steve Fossett died by hitting a mountain. The article describes the wreckage as being spread out over a really wide area, and finding the engine "300 feet from the fuselage, which indicated an intense impact."

I find it really shocking that Steve Fossett would die this way. It's kind of like the way Steve Irwin died; both men died in freak accidents doing things they were trained to do, which they were experts at doing, and had done many times over and over again.

They didn't find Fossett's body yet did they? Until they find a body, I will continue to believe that he crashed his plane, and faked his own death.

I agree. Given everything that this guy has done, he wouldn't die doing something simple and stupid like I might do if I were flying a plane.

Kind of like Flavor Flav. Just when you thought you had to say goodbye to the obnoxious self-glossing and oversize clock *tear*, he is rescued by the geniuses at MTV. Public Enemy to Flavor of Love - what a journey. Soldier on, Flav.

More than likely the wildlife in the area would have already removed his body from the scene.

However, I agree that his death won't be believed without a body.

I wouldn't call what was likely a controlled flight into terrain a "freak" accident.

Until we figure out why he hit a mountain in the Citabria, I would hesitate to call it a freak accident.

"Fossett's disappearance spurred a huge search that covered 20,000 square miles, cost millions of dollars and included the use of infrared technology. "

Man, if i dissapeared, I wonder if my creditors will spend that much to find me.

Not at all. Just saying that pilot error is not a "freak" accident.

There are very few "freak" accidents in aviation. Most of them have clear, and somewhat common, causes and results.

An incident that I might categorize as "freak" would be, say, TWA flight 800. Thousands upon thousands of hours of operation of the same airframe, and a design flaw manifests itself in an explosion of the central fuel tank.

His body was eaten by coyotes.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”
