    Pelini and Cotton.........

I had a Neb fan email me last night blaming the VT loss on left over Callahan players, and using Lucky by always running him up the middle instead of where his strengths lie. I messaged back saying that I don't know about the left over players thing, but I didn't think Pelini did his team any favors by going ballistic on the refs. Although it was in character for Pelini. I told him that most Clone fans, (read all), were glad to be rid of Cotton and that not using Lucky correctly or only getting some 50 + yards of team running offense may have something to do with 'ol Barney.

He responded with: "What?" They just don't get it - YET!

    Re: Pelini and Cotton.........

IMO, Cotton ran our OL tradition into the ground. ISU had a solid tradition of 1000+ yard backs for 7-8 years until he rolled into town.

I'm still convinced the Huskers made a major mistake when they went from the run-heavy option offense to a west coast style offense. If you were a blue chip offensive lineman recruit, running back recruit, or mobile QB recruit you wanted to go to Nebraska because of their tradition of churning out RB and QB Heisman candidates and Outland Trophy winners on the OL. Now, they've thrown it down the toilet to compete with every other school for throwing QBs, WRs, and "third down" RBs.

To be fair, it was Marty Fine that ran that into the ground. Cotton stunk, but Fine was terrible. He is the one that had the famous 'shooting the easter eggs' speech. He was not good, that bad hire was followed by another.

What is so great about Cotton. Didn't Nebraska already fire him once, then ISU hired and fired him. Who doesn't get it?

Please don.t mention Marty Fine here, ever! It makes me think of Donnie Duncan, and then I have to leave the room to hurle my lunch.

    Re: Pelini and Cotton.........

The NU fans that live near me were so excited about Cotton.

They really think they can have an option and outside running attack again, here is a newsflash guys. Defenses are getting faster and faster, and schools are putting playmakers at DE now instead of just big slow guys.

It's kind of funny, when we first hired Cotton a Nebraska fan warned me about him. I didn't believe it totally at the time. I wonder what he thinks about having Cotton back on his team.

    Re: Pelini and Cotton.........

anybody who thinks Nebraska hasn't made any mistakes in coach hiring/firing, schemes, and just the general way they have done things in the past (since 02) are insane...I would love for Iowa State to be where Nebraska was from '93-'01. Too bad those days are over for them.
