I like the uni's but how about names

The names on the back are for the fans, and it helps me to learn players numbers since I'm too old to read the program without my reading glasses. There are so few teams that don't have their names on the back that I really can't think of any. I assume it's to promote a team concept but is there any evidence that it actually does that? Not a big deal but maybe if their names were on the back our players would think twice before getting dumb penalties.

Honestly I agree with you but it's up to the staff. As for other teams with no names there's a little school called USC that doesn't do it as well.

I was just going to say that USC doesn't. I think no names gives the team a more classic look.

Ahh USC. Good example. Probably doesn't hurt that they have high school All-Americans at most positions.

Re: I like the uni's but how about names

I do think this is one of the dumbest trends in college football. You shouldn' have to prove you're a team by not putting your name on the jersey. It's a gimmick. Florida won the national championship and they had their names on the jersey.

I don't think it matters either way. When you run a team, then by all means put names on the back...

Re: I like the uni's but how about names

I agree that it looks better. It also fits in the mentality of team first. Players come and go, but the team is here.

Something that I would do if I were trying to learn the players is to check the depth chart on cyclones.com the week of the game, get a program for home games, and listen on the radio or watch the road games.

yep they sure do. this particular one was due however. it had been about a month or so.

as for reading the program, you can always read the roster online at home before the game. or just the depth chart. i remember the majority of name-numbe associations just by doing that. for example, i know that Austin Arnaud is number 6 or something like that.

and as for the teams with no names, Penn State i beleive. at least last year. maybe thats because JoPa cant read them without his reading glasses either.

Re: I like the uni's but how about names

Can't read the program, but think you are going to be able to read the names on the jerseys from the stands? I know I wouldn't be able to read the names from my seats. That is why I have looked at the depth chart and know for example, that AA is #4 and PB is #7.

Can someone tell me why this is such a hot button issue lately? I really don't see what the hoopla is all about.

I hate names on jerseys! Maybe on the road...but at home it should be a simple look! I really feel this way about baseball uniforms but my feelings extend to other sports as well.

Re: I like the uni's but how about names

Man, I missed the bit about not being able to read the program. Another one that doesn't make sense - can't read program - but can read the names on the jerseys?

I would've at least been a little bit more "supportive" had you came out and admitted you prefer names on the jerseys with no other reason than that's what you like. Because the reasons/excuses given for wanting it just don't add up.

Re: I like the uni's but how about names

how would a name on a back of a jersey keep one from committing a dumb penalty? I have to ask, I guess I don't see the logic behind that one?
